Why would my 7 year old boxer start attacking dogs only on leashes?

Wonderful family boxer, loves my young daughter, very mild mannered, no problem with dogs not on a leash but will chase down any dog on leash and attack...

  1. Because he's a coward.
  2. The leashed dogs have a limited amount of room in which they can run away or attack, so they are easy prey. I don't know what may have occurred to make him want to attack at all, but this is why he goes after the leashed dogs when he does.
  3. Cuz its hard!
  4. my dog is kinda the same , if she is off the leash she is fine with all other dogs , if she is on the leash she growls and barks at everything.
  5. Why is your dog off its leash?
  6. It's about Dominance. Dogs know when other dogs are restricted so he's punking other dogs! It's funny, but could get him in more trouble if he's off his leash. Careful
  7. Well, from watching the show The Dog Whisperer you can learn a lot. Your dog may think of itself as the pack leader, and that is a bad thing. If your dog is infront of you when you take a walk, that is bad. You need to always have him beside you or behind you. This is the only possible explanation that I can think of. -Your dog is the pack leader when it is on the leash. (that's what it thinks) It doesn't think it is the pack leader when it is off the leash. So when it see's other dogs with leash's on, it get's agressive and goes towards them, wanting to dominate them and telling them that HE is the pack leader. Understand? So when it see's other dogs without leashes, your boxer feels good becouse he thinks he's in charge because he has the leash. He feels that they know that he is the pack leader. You just have to walk him appropietly, like I said above. And then your dog will get the picture thaat he is not in charge with the leash. Hope I could help.
