Greyhound Dog Racing Results Knowledge Base
Why is dog-racing even legal? It's such a "sport" that results in the deaths of 20,000 dogs each year, due to injuries and euthanization. Puppies who aren't seen as up to par with racing standards are clubbed, starved, and electrocuted to death. After a dog is passed their prime, they are usually either killed or sold to laboratories. Why hasn't this been made illegal yet? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMM-QXnyE1Y Here's a good website I found to help stop greyhound racing. It just shocks me that though dog-fighting is illegal, racing isn't. http://www.grey2kusa.org/ Pitbull: The whole system kills them. The amount of racing they go through kills them. Please do your research before telling me to "chill out."
How do you get into dog racing? I've found a group of blokes down the pub who are willing to bet on my races if I can show some results. I was thinking of starting off by antagonising next door's 15 year old jack russell into a chase and then working my way up to the sprightly German shepherd across the road. Do you think I could outrun a greyhound in a year's time on this regime, or do I have to go to special classes? And where do you get those electric rabbits from? (I know it's not Anne Summers, I've already made that mistake...)
My dog has become timid after 2 dog attacks and doesn't want to go walks anymore? We have been attacked twice now by "roaming" dogs, the first attack he was dragged to the ground and had 14 lots of stitches as a result. The 2nd time a dog charged at us and he panicked and pulled off the leash and ran 1km home by himself. Now it is really really difficult to get him out for a walk. He is very nervous of any dog or sudden noise and just wants to go home/ be at home. I don't blame him! What might help him- medication or therapy - I'm serious here- I want him to enjoy going for a walk again and not be terrified of other dogs. He is a huge greyhound, desexed, an ex racing dog. He has a very placid quiet temperament. In neither attack did he show any sign of aggression or even defensive behavior - he just wants to run away and did on both occasions. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Neck problem in greyhound query? My 9 year old retired racing greyhound has had a neck problem for past year. now vet wants to refer him for surgery. I am not sure what to do . As well as being very expensive (not sure insurance will cover whole cost) he is a very sensitive dog and i dont think he will cope very well. Has anyone had this type of surgery on their dog ? The vet thinks it is a disc problem, he also has very shaky legs (?canine wobbler syndrome). I dont want to put him through all this if the end result is poor but i do love the dog and want to do the best for him. have been giving him glucosomine with no effect really just wondered if there are any other treatments that may help. He did get metacalm for pain fromn vet but had to stop it as he had an intestinal bleed from it. Can anyone help?
How dangerous are greyhounds and should I be worried? I am wondering just how dangerous are greyhounds. A neighbor owns two greyhounds that are unregistered which she walks everyday unmuzzled (Which is against the law) and recently has been deliberately letting them off their leash (Also against the law) as she reaches our yard She then lets the dogs walk alone in front of our yard while she goes into her own yard causing my dogs to bark. .The greyhounds have been blooded, one jumped the fence a few months ago and killed one of our chickens. She cried and said it was unusual behavior for her dog even though it was a racing dog and because it didn't kill the chicken outright it was probably trying to play with it (We had to put the chicken down because of its injuries) She sees no wrong in what she is doing instead saying the bigger problem is my dogs barking whenever she walks her dogs. Asking her to leash the dogs when she takes them for a walk has just resulted in her screaming and swearing at us about how our dogs (Both puppies under 12 months of age) bark when she walks her dogs. So am I wrong in being concerned?
