Is dog sledding or racing abusive to the animals? Is dog racing or dog sledding an animal rites issue? I heard a little on bth sides of the argument, but I'm still unsure if its cruel to the dogs. What are your thought , good or bad. Knowitall & animal expert, arent pitbulls bred to fight? Isnt that there "job" ? I hate pit fighting, but one can make that argument.
What is Alaska like in spring? Can i have any extra information on sled dog racing? I am currently trying to write a book about Alaskan sled dog racing. I need to know the temperatures of Alaska for every season. If anyone has any additional information on sled dog racing, the Iditarod, or rules of the race, please let me know! I dont really have any idea of alaskan sled dog racing and thats how it is intended to be in the book. It will be in first person so I, not being Alaskan, would not know very much on the subject. Hence i am researching it.
What are the best Horse/Dog racing tracks in the Phoenix area? I am going down to Phoenix in march for spring break to watch some spring training baseball games with a few friends. We want to go see a horse or dog racing track, and need some suggestions on which ones to go to. Please give a reason for why you think your suggestion is worthwhile, and if you could recommend anything else fun to do in phoenix I would appreciate all suggestions!
What is the difference between horse racing, dog racing, deer hunting and ....Micheal Vick's case? Ok...I have anaylized Mike Vick's case and other animal sporting events. Government sanctioned animal sports have been in place for decades and the animal rights people have had been quiet until now. First horse racing. These animals are injected with steriods and overburdened to win races. There is money bet on their outcome. If they seriously break a leg, then they are put to sleep. Next is dog racing...Greyhounds...Big money is wagered on their outcome. These animals are bred for racing. They are injected with dangerous steriods. If they lose their competitive edge or get injured, then they are thrown to a shitty kennel and are forgotten. Some are even put to sleep. Finally....Deer Hunting...This sport pisses me off. How can some Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia or West Virginia red neck go and blow defenseless bambi's brains out and get to hang the head on the wall? They seldom eat the animal. Where are the animal rights activists for this?
Is dog racing and horse racing inhumane? I am a fan of both events but I do realize that it is quite unnatural for dogs and horses to be in that type of environment and racing for humans. I have also seen pictures of gruesome cases of mistreatment of dogs at the track.
What is the Wii game with dog racing? While at the mall, we saw young kids (age 6?) playing a wii game at a demo station and they were racing dogs. I have been trying to find that game to buy for my daughter for a Christmas present and cannot figure out what game it was. Of course, it was a mall from a ways away and I cannot go back and see. Does anyone know which game this is?
What are some pros of dog racing? I am doing my senior project over dog racing and so far I have found many things for a convincing argument over why not to race dogs. What are good reasons to race dogs? If you could help me out.... Thanks
Is there any city in America that has live horse and dog racing? Phoenix was the last one that I knew of, but Phoenix Greyhound Park stopped live racing last year. I was just wondering if there was any cities that had both within 50 miles or so. Houston is the only other city I can think of but Sam Houston Race Park only offers quarterhorse racing which just isn't the same as regular tracks.
In what book does a racing dog's heart explode before it can finish a race? I read a book a long time ago in which a boy trains this dog to run it in a race. He cuts across an ice lake, and he's in first place. The finish line is only a little ways away but the dog's heart explodes and she dies before she can cross the finish line. Then someone pulls out a gun (I think) and says the boy will finish first or something like that. :S What was this book, and who wrote it?
what is the best sled dog for racing? I would also like to know where to buy these top quality racing dogs dogs. And could somebody tell me what breeds make up a alaskan husky. And lastly I want to know what dog is the strongest for pulling weights
Is it possible to access a dog racing track in the UK? I would like to take my Lurcher for a run on a proper racing track, I live in South East England, and I was just wondering if there are any accessible places, that you don't need special licenses etc for. Does anybody know anything about this? Thank you in advance :D
When did horse/dog racing become legal in South Dakota? I've trying to find information on this, but can't find the origin of when it started or the legal issues surrounding it. Also does anyone have information on when bingos and raffles started. These were the only forms of gambling in South Dakota before casinos were legal in 1989.
Any dog racing tracks near Sandusky, Ohio? We are planning a family vacation and my dad likes dog racing/ horse racing. Was wondering if there were any racing tracks with either simulcasting or live racing near Sandusky, Ohio?
What's your opinion on dog racing? I've heard different things. Some people say the dogs are pampered and very well cared for. Other people say that the dogs are killed or abandoned when they get too slow. What do you think, and do you have any first hand experience with dog racing? I'm talking more about track racing, like with greyhounds.
Why is dog-racing legal in the USA? There's a racing kennel near where I live. Every year, they dump former racing champions into local kill shelters in order to replace them with younger and more athletic dogs. Why is this even allowed? There's already a big problem with overcrowding and euthanization in shelters - why are the racing kennels allowed to add to this? Why isn't dog-racing shut down and ended once and for all?
Is dog racing cruel as horse racing? I don't much about dog racing, but I know about the horse racing industry (very cruel). Is dog racing (the GreyHounds) cruel? Why or why not? Mulewrangler: There's also the fact that they wouldn't have got hurt if they weren't in the race.
Greyhound owners: are you against dog racing? In Massachusetts there is a Ballot Question (3) that seeks to ban dog racing in this state by 2010. If you are a greyhound owner, I am curious if you are pro-racing, anti-racing or neutral? Please also state why. Thanks in advance.
Is dog fighting really any worse than horse racing or dog racing? It's breeding for competition just like dog fighting. I think they should make dog fighting legal. And set it up with rules to protect the dogs just like the UFC with humans. they could have referees that are wearing protective equitment to moniter the fight with a point based scoring system. people could bet on the fights. Dog fighting is going to happen whether we want it to or not so why not make it legal to protect the dogs. No more dogs dying in fights and dogs being killed after long fights by acts such as drowning first off I am a hippy from Canada so my friends will just think this is a funny thought since it will never happen. But again this legal form of dog fighting would be completely different than the underground. I mean MMA still has an underground that is far more gruesome than the legal UFC. As to what the legistics of this league would be I don't know but maybe a solution like this should be given some thought to offer a legal much less barbaric alternative. This is just evolution in rome humans fought to the death the same thing might happen to dog fighting where it's more control
Dog racing clubs in yorkshire? does anyone know of a dog racing club in west yorkshire, where children are aloud, for saluki cross dogs to try and practice racing.
Dog fighting is considered cruel, and yet we allow horse racing, where horses are whipped, seems hypocritical? I often find it funny that we want to pass judgement on certain activities ie... dog fighting, and yet we turn a blind eye to similar activities ie... dog racing. I believe that animals should only be killed if they are being eaten or consumed in some way, otherwise killing the animal serves no purpose. I think that it is okay to use horses for pulling carts and for riding, but yet we race them while beating them with tiny whips. In this day and age we need to analyse how humane we really are. If you shoot a deer and then eat it, it is serving a purpose, but putting it's head on your wall is tacky, why not put a painting of a deer up instead, it would be a better representation of the animals majesty. Actually I would say killing an animal out of sympathy is okay also, such as an old pet, or an injured animal that is suffering. Why intelligent human beings would ever consent to the cruelties of animals racing or killing for sport, is beyond me. Animals are a gift from God, not to waste
What is your opinion of the dog sled racing? Do you think is should be banned? Do you think it should be televised? Do you think it is cruel to the dogs involved ? I love it myself! I think it should be televised; sorry so many of you misunderstood. I saw an a story about someone complaining about the it being cruel to the dogs, I am husky mix myself, my mom takes me running everyday twice a day or more and I love the snow. I think it should be an Olympic sport. I misrepresented my question. Sorry
do you think dog racing is cruel? hi, doees anyone have an opinion on dog racing? now i know first off that when an animal is used for profit its welfare is not of major concern as long as it continues to make the money. is it right ot keep dogs (naturally curious, bright creatures) locked up their whole lives and then raced to the point of exhaustion and then put down when no longer able to race? and the same goes for horse racing? what do you think? thanks.
Will racing stripes make my dog go faster? Sometimes when I take my golden retriever Max to the dog park, he can't keep up with the fastest dogs. He's fast, believe me, but I think he is sad to not be able to keep up with the best. If I shave his fur down a little and paint red or blue racing stripes on him, will he go faster? I'm interested in suggestions for design as well. What will be fastest?
Dog Racing, What is the dress code? Hello, I am off dog racing for the first time tonight at Swindon. What sort of clothes should I wear. Have only ever been horse racing and that is quite formal. Thanks anyone gonna give me a sensible answer? I was told it was quite informal and you can wear anything Was my question "is dog racing cruel?" I don't think it was. Stick to the question
What's worst, Dog Fighting or Horse Racing? I think they're both EQUAL and I don't have a problem with neither one. I think it'll be very HYPOCRITICAL of me to bash dog fighting and then support sports like horse racing, boxing, cockfighting, or even eating MEAT! Why? Horse Racing: The owner BEATS his horse senseless in order for the horse to move faster, and if the horse BREAKS A LEG the owner will SHOOT the horse execution style! Now how is that any different from dog fighting? The horse is getting BEAT and if he's no good he gets SHOT! Boxing: How could someone support two HUMANS beating the crap out of each other and then act like dog fighting is so horrible? It's ashame that we live in a world that most people think that 2 dogs (animals) getting hurt is worst then 2 humans getting hurt. Cockfighting: It's the SAME! Instead of it being dogs their just cocks. A animal is just an animal. Meat: How could I say dog fighting is CRUEL and at the sametime eat MEAT? They KILLED that animal in order for me to eat it. Anyways, I have nothing against dog fighting, boxing, horse racing, cockfighting, or eating meat! I just wanted to show an EXAMPLE on how our society is hypocritical! How could you bash one thing and then up lift another thing that's similar. P.S. Dog fighting (Pit Bulls) is a sport that's popular in a certain race of people and that's why they are coming down so hard on it! LEAVE MICHAEL VICK ALONE! Darrly G, get your FACTS right! Every dog that lose doesn't get killed! It's just mainly the dogs that refuses to fight! If you have a dog that refuses to fight and you are a dog fighter then the dog that refuses to fight is no good! That's just like when the horse breaks a leg! THEY SHOOT HIM! YoMoma, have you ever heard of these boxers, http://www.boxrec.com/media/index.php/category:ring_fatalities click above: Yomoma, there is hundreds of boxers who have died because of boxing! You guys who disagrees with me are hypocrites and racist! LEAVE VICK ALONE! J.B. & Swayze, you guys are the sh!t and you guys are realist! LEAVE MICHAEL VICK ALONE! Wow....You females are BRUTAL.....lol. You are talking about shooting a HUMAN! J.B., what's up? Why should Vick get his? LEAVE MICHAEL VICK ALONE! (they're just ANIMALS, who cares?) P.S. Like I said, how could I be against dog fighting and eat MEAT at the sametime! The animal I ate they KILLED it against HIS OWN WILL! B-NUT, I don't believe in GOD and haven't you heard of vegetarians? You do not need MEAT to live! The food chain is MAN MADE! Stop being an HYPOCRITE! BTW, how could you guys say that they treat those horses good but at the sametime the horses gets BEAT or SHOT!?
dog racing? i was at victory track in alabama not long ago, very new to betting on dogs. anyway one of the races i see one dogs odds is 7/2, another one 9/2, and two others 5/2 what does that mean
Dachshund racing? or dog racing in general? I just wanted to know opinions about what the world thinks of dog racing. I entered my dachshund in a race last year and we thought it was fun but I've also heard some negative things about it.
Is horse racing more humane than dog or rooster fights? The runner-up in the Kentucky Derby was euthanized on the track after collapsing with two broken front legs. Things like this are common in racing, remember Barbaro for example. How is one sport that hurts animals for profit different than another?
Should dog racing be allowed? Yes: it can be a fun sport to watch No: many dogs are badly mistreated and hurt i mean all types, i am doing this for a skoll project and needed advice for my essay, thank you all very much!
How do you prepare your pup for the weenie dog races? Its one race a year...and our dauchshund LOVES to run...Is there anything special things other owners have done to prepare their dog? Thanks! Its hilariously cute!! If he was lazy we wouldnt get him into it..but he runs faster than we can sprint... He'll be so good. The bike is a good idea!
Can a mutt compete or any other type of dog in an Alaskan race ? Instead of a quincenera, next year, I'm having a sled dog race. My parents agreed to take me to Alaska to compete. I have a German Husky, a Pointer Mix, a Wolf Husky mix, and 4 German pointers. Are they elegible to compete ? Thanks Nikki your answer was great as well as animal @s.

Feelings on Massachusetts dog racing ban? I was torn on 3. It passed and dog racing will be phased out by 2010 in Massachusetts. I think that people established in it will just scatter to the surrounding states, and that while it won't make much of an impact here that is one less thing to spend money to regulate. I know that the "horrors" of dog racing are sometimes exaggerated, but I don't think it is a necessary service and it is hard to ensure the animals are cared for. Do you think that dog racing will eventually be illegal in all of the US? Do you think it should be? Why? When I said exaggerated, I meant that there are probably some people that do care about and care for the dogs. I do beleive there are also horrible owners that race their dogs, and I think its a waste of money to try and filter through the good and bad ones because dog racing isn't even necessary. Good point Kirk- I don't know if the law covers people racing their dogs for fun- I think this is for comerical dog racing. I hadn't thought of recreational competitions with pet dogs I will need to look into that. It is just for any type of dog racing where there will be people wagering on the dogs speed. I am fine with letting the dogs race- I do think that dogs are pets and that people should not raise them just for profit and then discard them when they can no longer racing them.
Is there any where to watch dog races in the Seattle area? I am coming out from Pittsburgh and have been watching them run at Wheeling Downs and was either looking for an actual track or just a place that simulcasts other races. Not sure if Emerald Downs shows and lets you bet the dogs or just horses. It doesn't have to exactly be in Seattle I live in Redmond so I am willing to drive.
Dog/ greyhound racing- betting? how does it work? i have never been before, how does it work? i have never bet money before, but am going next week to the dogs, and wondered how i put money on, how many races there are, how it all works, what i need to say when placing a bet, how i know if ive won, how i claim my money if i win, all that stuff please help?!!?
Why do dogs have racing fits? By racing fit I mean short lasted surges of energy dogs occasionally get, sending them seemingly mindlessly racing back and forth in their yards (or living room couch to couch in my small dog's case this morning) really fast. Usually triggered by the introduction of something exciting. I mean, I can't think of any human action similar to this.
Dog lovers, I bet greyhound breeders are more guilty of animal cruelty than dog fighters? You know greyhound racing is a somewhat popular sport and you know greyhound dog breeders do it for the money so they select the ones to keep and what do you think they do with the ones that don't measure up. And worse, what do you think they do to the campions that win all the dog races after that dog gets older? I like animals but I really wonder if a dog is worth a man's life? greyhound mummy I did not mean the post to be offensive but it is in fact true. I lived in an area that greyhound racing was popular and there was an investigative tv news show on this topic and it is true that greyhound breeders do it for business reasons and it true they kill their dogs generally speaking when the dogs are no longer useful. Just by using your imagination you know it is true because they must go through many many litters a year and many dogs trained to be runners and a few champions and on with the next cycle and they do kill their dogs. I am sorry if this offends you but that doesn't make it any less true ok!
Horse racing....dog fighting? Animals being pushed to the limit...Sounds like mike vick is not much different then these horse racing gods!...Training...pushed hard...death to the unfortunate ones...Why is vick in jail and these gods are picking up the won wagers and purse money..hmmmmm...does that also sound like dog fighting... im anti-peta or pita or whatever it is..face facts no research is needed race horses die at a alarming rate ...reality is research... im making comparasions to why mike vick is in jail and we as a tax payer spent tons of money prosucating those in that situation.. mr logic..let me take a whip on you for almost 1mile and a quarter... im not peta, thats crazy...people get real..be honest with yourselfs..theres not much difference..
How do i stop my Dog Pulling on the lead? My dog is a labrador/border collie and he is 4 years old.As he has lab and collie in him he is very boisterous and playful. He has the best character for a dog BUT when it comes to walkies time he goes crazy. The minuite you get the lead out he starts making all noises and running in and out until the leads on him. Then as i walk him out of my back gate the pulling starts. He just charges-like hes in a dog race and i have tried most tecniques ie the minuite he pulls, stop and wait for him to come back-you can stand there for 10 mins and he just stands there or lies down ready to pull again.Ive already tried that when he pulls, pull him back and say heel and that does absolutely nothing.Hes not too bad on the way back home once he has had a run off the lead.We also have another dog and she is fine on the lead.We usually take them for a walk together and he seems worse when shes with him but even when we do take them seperately he still pulls like mad.Is there another tecnique we could try? I forgot to add that,we got him a harness and just pulls it off his nose and keeps stopping in the street. And as hes very strong its made of material and the last lead we got him like that he ripped it. We also tried stopping and turning around and taking him the other way but the minuite you go to walk again he just pulls more. But if i buy another stronger halti how do you stop him from pulling it off his nose?
What is the average speed for a female racing greyhound? I have a Female greyhound around 1yr. old (not bred to be a race dog but a hunting dog) and she runs 50mph. we have clocked her going that fast. Is this below, average, or above a racing greyhounds speed? my greyhound is about 1yo. and she runs about 50 mph. and we have seen her do this while chasing a deer for 3/4 of a mile. She was litterly 8ft. behind the deer!
