What is a good $300-400 photography start up camera for pictures in high motion? I have a photography hobby, i am a starter, and i need a camera that is good for taking pictures of horse racing tournaments and cars in motion. My last nikon coolpix L110 has a sports setting but the pictures look very distorted in high motion and the shutter speed was very low so when i pressed the shutter it delayed itself for a couple seconds before it went off and i couldnt press it over and over again, i had to wait a couple seconds before pressing the shutter again, which caused me to sometimes lose great moments because my shutter was too slow. Does anyone know what is a good camera that takes good motion pictures and has a fast shutter speed? I am a Nikon lover, but am open to any recommendations you may have about any other brands. (And i will most likely buy the camera used on Ebay so it will fit my price range) Thanks in advance!
With a 650-1300 mm Telescopic Zoom Lens for Sony Alpha 100.Will I be able to use a lower ISO number? I like to take pictures of race horses and other action photos but on dull days I have to increase the ISO number so much that the result is very grainy.I have the 75mm/300mm and the 18mm/70mm zoomlenses If I invested in a 650-1300 mm Telescopic Zoom Lens for my Sony Alpha 100 would I be able to lower the ISO number?

Does anyone else hate horse race tracks as much as me? i've always depised that sport...but have you heard the news of the horse who injured itself and had to be euthanized. i saw pictures of the horses leg after the race...it looked like it snapped in half or something, im not sure. i had to change the channel cause i couldnt bear to watch it. i freaking hate the guy riding the horse..he worked it way too hard. i'm so upset over this and i wanna smack that horse jockey and have horses trample all over him... sorry..i'm very passionate when it comes to animals, especially horses cause i grew up raising them

Somebody said they never heard of the Jockey John J. Fellie,well I've known him for over thirty yrs.? John J. Posters of racehorses? I'm redecorating my room for the first time, and would like to put up some posters as I don't have any. However, I don't seem to be able to find any posters of the subjects I would like. why is greyhound racing considered cruel and horse racing not? Some greyhounds go back with the breeder, some are killed, and some are adopted out. Well the same goes for horses so why are people all against greyhound racing and not horse racing? I did a report and seen it all...a lot of the worst pictures shown in greyhound racing come from Ireland...not the US where NGA will suspend you for animal abuse in a heartbeat.

My best friend bought this horse and he is an ex-racer and It would just be interesting to let her know more of his past as there is some information on racing post but not much and we cant watch the videos. How much are these old pictures worth? from 1950-1970ish? I have a bunch of copies of paintings on nice paper 11x 8.5 paper. you can tell they are old. They are of race horses. they were originally paintings. ty I dont know i just think they are old. Any helpful comments?

Why don't you get picture cards in packs of cigarettes in England anymore? Once in Britain, cigarette packets always contained picture cards and most other countries still produce cards with their ciggies. Often the cards had pictures of sports cars, famous footballers, cricketers, politicians, race horses etc like they do in other countries now. They are now collectable and worth lots of money they can also be used as trading cards. What I don't understand is why cigarette companies do not use these cards as it would be a good way of encouraging people to buy their brand.
Question about taking pictures of a horse but it comes out blurry cause I can't use the flash? I have been trying to take pictures of my friends barrel racing (I race too) but if it's in an indoor arena there's not much as far lighting as well as cloudy days. If I don't use the flash the picture comes out blurry. I can't use the flash because it will spook the horse. I tired once during an exhibition with the flash and the horse spooked really bad so i won't do it again. i asked one of the professional barrel photographers how he does it cause he uses the flash, he told me where he sets his flash 9 it's separate from the camera on a long pole) the horse doesn't even notice it. What I'm asking basically is how can i take the picture of the horse running with out the picture blurring or using the flash? Oh and I shoot with a Canon REBEL. Thank you!

My Web designer posted the results in a comical approach. "A picture of a Horses Race!" The leading horses was named ABC company and and losing horse was named EFG company. I am looking for pictures, calenders, dvds of wild horses. I've seen cloud but I really don't want people in it if possible. I want to be able to fill my soul with their wildness. their naturalness, untamed, untouched by man, or at least look that way. I don't know if there are any wild horses left in the world. is there a video editor i can download that lets me use my videos from youtube ? i am trying to make a barrel racing video for my horse using pictures from my computer, and videos i have had taken. i have all the videos uploaded on youtube.com but none of the editors i find will let me use them. most of them have to be saved to my computer to use, but i no longer have them on a camera to put them on my new computer. is there a video editor where i can use the videos i have on youtube ?
Any way to find information on paperless horse? Pictures included.? A few weeks ago we received a horse, "Speedy", from some barrel racing friends of ours. They were not able to give him the proper care he needed like senior supplement, so they decided it best to give him to us to find a good home for him. We had no information on him, just that he was about 20 yrs old, he came from arkansas, and he's a barrel racer/pole bender. By his conformation, anyone who sees him guesses he's appendix. I've been trying to look up sire's with "speed" or "speedy" in the name, though I know that's kind of hopeless cause there's so many out there. Anyway, if anyone could tell me if it's possible to track down this guy's history, that would be great. I looked up his offspring years, and in the year 1988 he had a son (sorrel gelding) named "kegis speedy 666". doubt I'm on the right track, but to me it's worth it. again, I know this is basically a hopeless search, but it's just something I'd really love to find the solution to. the only information the previous owners had on him is what I shared.

Is dog racing and horse racing inhumane? I am a fan of both events but I do realize that it is quite unnatural for dogs and horses to be in that type of environment and racing for humans. I have also seen pictures of gruesome cases of mistreatment of dogs at the track.
Quantum of Solace Horse Race? Just saw "Quantum of Solace", and I have a question about a set piece from the film. Early in the movie, a chase scene is juxtaposed with a rather unusual horse race. The race is in an Italian town, there is no racetrack (rather, it takes place in a cobbled street), and the horses are not saddled, but the riders wear silks. There is a crowd taking pictures, etc. Does anyone know if this is an actual event or something that was made up for the movie?

Show names for Horses? We are entering our two horses in a show next month(a no-stress fun play day show) and we'd like to make up show names for them. Let me give you some information. Cash is a 8ish year old chestnut thoroughbred who is very green but SUPER calm with kids on his back. He's very affectionate and loves to eat. He's very alert on the trail, and is usually the first to spook at a indent in the ground(IT'S A LION'S DEN, FOR SURE!) but he's a sweet boy. He tries hard, but he's just a bit spazzy. He used to be a race horse. He has a tattoo, but we haven't coughed up the $30 yet to see who his parents were or if he won any races or anything. He has a small mane that sometimes blows up in the wind and looks like a mowhawk. Tucker is a 10ish year old DARK brown gelding with a mealy muzzle. He's a fatty(really he's a perfect weight, but his brother has trouble keeping on weight, so in comparison he looks fat), and LOVES food. Once he got loose from being tied on the fence, and we walked calmly over to the paddock and grazed. He's also SUPER calm with kids on his back, and can be ridden bareback(but his back is super bony. ouch!) He's definitely a bit of a grump some days, but other days he can be really sweet and affectionate. If we get to a scary object on the trail, like a ditch, He'll cross it before Cash will. Tucker is the dominant one in the pasture, and if any of the horses even LOOK at him when he's eating he'll pin his ears and bare his teeth at him. :P He's brave, though, and hasn't refused any jumps I've pointed him at(crossrails...haha) Anyways, their Barn Names don't need to be used in their show names. They're both big boys, upper 16 hands at least. We don't know their parents, and they were both given to their owner a month ago for free. I am looking for a black and white photo of a horse race. The shot is taken at Churchill Downs in the 30's... or 40's. The jockeys are really going at it. One is trying to unbuckle the other jocks girth while that jock is whipping the other jockey. It is an incredible shot and was hanging in the jockeys room at Churchill Downs. What color tack looks best with a Chestnut horse? I have a light color chestnut mare. I don't want to put Red, Black, or yellow on her. I have a brown saddle already and love it so the color has to match with that. I am using the tack to barrel race with so i want it to be sorta eye catching but not to crazy. I'm looking for pictures of my old horse...? My thoroughbred (ex-racer) died when he was only 7 years old. He died from a very sudden and fierce bout of colic which had no explanation or known cause. It was absolutely devastating and he was part of the family. I'm wondering, since he used to race (in Ireland btw) would there be any way i could find any pic's of him from when he was younger? Can you recommend a digital camera good for taking action shots? I currently have a nikon coolpix L3. I take a lot of action shots of horse racing. I also have shaky hands and most of my pictures turn out blurry. Any recommendations in the $200 or $250 price range?
Suggestions for horse racing pictures? I will be going to the track on Thursday. I have never been to one before and would love to get some really good photos. My major thesis is that "traditional" practices can be cruel, and we shouldn't let them continue just because they're tradition. (I have county health insurance and it seems that these doctors either do not know the answer, do not care to give the answer or do not want to take the time to tell me what is possibly happening inside of my body). I asked this question before, with no clear answers yet. I want a very detailed description of what could be happening inside my body. I am not pregnant. I have no children. If you are a nurse or if you are a student nurse and have taken micro-biology, can you please help me out here. I need details. I'm 33. For the past 4-5 years, I have had to go pee like crazy (about once every hour) while on my period. I do not have this problem when I am not on my period. I do not have to drink water to pee like this during this time of the month. I have been told that I "retain water". Okay. What does this mean? Paint me a picture. Why do I pee so much only during my period? It is crazy having to go to the bathroom every hour. If I was working, my boss would wonder why I'm not getting any work done one week out of the entire month. My boss would wonder why I'm always in the bathroom. I do not need to drink anything. When I am on my period, I just pee. All the time. The day that I'm done with my cycle-it's all over. My body is back to normal! So, what is going on? Are all of these little cells in my body just dormant for three weeks out of a month and all of a sudden-bam! These cells just fill up with water and go to my bladder and then dump water and then I need to go pee? Or do these cells go to the uterus? I need a very detailed description of what is happening. Can my weight be a factor in this? What about my age? I am 5 foot 1 and 180 pounds. When I was in my 20's, it was not like this! Is this a common event that happens in women in their 30's? Is this a common event that happens in all women when they are on their period? I am not a diabetic. Is there anything that I can take to stop this urination? Is there something that I can take besides the pill? I'm sure that the pill will help since that is meant to stop the cycles (such as 4 cycles a year instead of 12). What about Deterol LA? Would this help if I took it only during my period? Please help me! Thank you Mel, I heard that it IS very "normal". What I want to know is what is happening. This is why I asked for a nurse to answer the question. I want to to details-even if it is "normal", I still want to know why this is happening.
Best small horse for children? Well, Grandpa has started a ranch (with all the requisite animals and then some). Currently he has two thoroughbreds (former race horses), an old mare that used to do kid-duty at a now-defunct stable and a small, non-rideable donkey. As grandchildren are starting to enter the picture, he will want to add another horse to the stable (Misty being almost 20yo there's likely not a bunch of kiddie-rides in her future). So: if you were to buy a horse for children to learn to ride, what breed and sex would you choose and why?

Ok, so I've posted a lot on here about Dakota, but just want as many asnswers as I could. I'm very nervous and could use some good notes on her. She's a six year old TB out of Secretariat and she was going to race but didn't due to a splint in her RF, which doesn't bother her. She had a prepurchase vet exam when I got her on trial a week ago, and my vet said Dakota has little muscle, soreness in her back and hind due to, most likely, lack of conditioning, and she gave me about an 80% chance that all of her soreness and stiffness in the hind right will disappear with proper conditioning and work on flexion. During her vet check, she was barefoot and not as sore, and she passed everything besides being stiff and sore in the hind end. She passed her flexion, too. She has good bones, good tendons (except her old splint, which was verified by my vet that it didn't cause pain or discomfort), and great teeth. So overall, sore feet and sore muscles. Right now, and in the video, she's recovering from short feet. She was given to me barefoot (her shoes had been yanked off after a bad shoe job. sigh.) and the hard ground she had been off had chipped off a lot of foot, especially on her RF. My farrier came out to see her about four days ago and we decided to do some basic front shoes in the front to create some growth. He said if she remained barefoot, the rocks and hard surfaces would prohibit proper growth. We also had to lift her off the ground a little bit. Right away, she was really sore, and my farrier said that if she hadn't improved in a week then we would go back, remove the shoes, and put them back on with glue. Personally, I would have liked to do that in the first place, but I trust my farrier for the most part. I've had her on stall rest since she was shod, giving her small handwalks like the one in the video twice a day, ending with grazing and a gram of bute. She has been looking a lot better, and I have some real high hopes for her. I'm going to start giving her beet pulp in small amounts tomorrow to help put some weight on, and once she's ready to be worked, I'll put her on alfalfa so I can have "more horse" to work with. :) So all in all, what do you think of her? When do you think she will be ready to start going under saddle? Do you think there's hope? I'm not worried about money at all, since I know that I'm at least helping a horse and I always have money coming in. I just lose sleep at night worrying if she'll ever be okay to ride again. Oh, and I saw her in January and she looked great, even though her rider wasn't asking her to do much. *Please no rude comments. I love this mare, and if she's going to have to remain a companion only, I'll still keep her. I want to know what people think of her. I'm doing a project on animal cruelty, can anyone help me find some good websites and pictures? My major thesis is that "traditional" practices can be cruel, and we shouldn't let them continue just because they're tradition. I'm looking for pictures and information on any cruel, inhumane, or ignorant training or care practices. Does anyone know any or where to find good horse quotes? I have a project I am doing, and I need some horse quotes, but the catch is they have to be related to the events. I need one referring to barrel racing or pole bending, one about western pleasure, English pleasure, jumping and one about Showmanship. Also, if anyone knows where I can find pictures, preferably of youth, that demonstrate each event, I would be most appreciative. This is for 4-H, so kids would be best. Thanks everyone!

Racing bridle question? I can't find a picture of it, but I have seen quite a few horses in races with a strange bridle that no one I've asked seems to know about.. There's a strap that runs down the middle of their face and splits above their nostrils into a v, and I believe it connects to the bit. What kind of bridle is this and what is it's purpose? to add to the rodeo topic? to just add to the rodeo topic earlier discussed. for the one who answered and put pictures up up horses having marks from the flank straps and horses getting "kicked" by spurs which is called marking out, in any sport, there is a chance a horse will get hurt, but that doesnt mean we are doing it on purpose. getting the hair rubbed off and causing a sore or blister from a flank strap, well horses can also get those from the girth of the saddle, or the leg boots, or for instance a horse can trip and pull you down causing the reins to burn off the hair and leave a blister on there neck ( its happened to me ) but what people dont realize is going around the internet and searching cruelty websites/photos is going to of course show you the bad/injured horse, that doesnt mean the WHOLE entire world of rodeo or any other horse sport for that matter is cruel. again that would be like me going and saying horse jumpin or racing is cruel so i could be like some and accuse another persons sport for being cruel and go and look up quote on quote cruel pictures and post them. but i wont, because i know the basics/logistics of horse sports and i know they arent cruel i mean do i go and say that horse racing is cruel because they force the horse to run its hardest and take a chance at tripping and breaking a leg, or breaking its neck? no. do i go and say that horse jumping is cruel because people force a horse to jump a fence sometimes taller than them and trip while landing and injure or kill itself or hitting a fence and for some weird reason gets a pole lodged in its side (ive seen pics) no, so why do others go and accuse the sport of rodeo to be cruel? and to clear everything up, i started out jumping, went to rodeo and currently still rodeo and breed and raise race horses p.s.- i am done talking about this topic, and am done hearing about this topic. i just wanted to get my point/view out there. thank u not to be rude "Littlegirl" rodeo is not a small group..rodeo is a lot bigger than you think honey. try competing in the NFR against hundreds and hundreds. my main sport is barrel racing, therefore i am a memer of NBHA (national barrel horse assoc.) at the world champs, i competed agains 1200 people..thats not small. rodeo is a world wide sport that is growing rapidly

The white Fluffy bands on nosebands, what are they for? I know its a stupid question, but i've seen them on race horses and showjumping horses and never really knew what they are for. A girl at my yard has a cob and he wears one she said it helps him keep concerntration (his mind does tend to wonder). But then someone else told me it was to protect the nose and stop rubbing from the noseband? Can anyone enlighten me? Asian, Black, Hispanic etc. Contributions to Horses? I just read a resolved question from someone asking if it was weird to be Asian and like horses?!? Ack! ANYBODY can ride and love horses! I thought it would be cool to go around the world and through history and talk about contributions and famous riders of different backgrounds. I know that many early cowboys in North America were black/african descent There is a great book called "A Pony in the Picture" that has vintage photos of kids on ponies, most of them are white, but there ARE asian, hispanic, and black kids in there too! From a "Pony in the Picture" Boys and Girls of all races loved Westerns and played at being cowboys and girls. The few African-American film producers of the time made a handful of movies that featured black cowboy characters, but sadly these films received meager distribution as most theater owners of the day were white. Historically, however America as a proud tradition of black cowboys including Nat Love, Bronco Sam, CONT. Bronco Sam, Singing Cowboy Charley Wilis, and Bulldoggin' Bill Pickett, who is credited with the sport of bull dogging and was honored with a commemorative postage stamp in 1994." Can anyone name some top Asian and Black competitors and their discipline? Africa gave us the Arabian and Barb horse, as well as influencing Spanish horsemanship. Asia, I think of the native ponies of Japan, Samurai, Mongolian war ponies... Can anyone help broaden my horizons? I am almost positive there is info out there somewhere on Asian cowboys back in the day too. If anyone comes across any, e-mail it to me! No, it's not a rant. :P I'm asking if people know more about the contributions made by ALL sorts of riders. Most people assume that rich, white people are the only people who have ever done anything with horses, or sadly, there are some who think that's the way it should be. Wow, I thought there were some really enlightened people on here who were history and culture buffs, but apparently I was wrong. And actually yeah there are some ignorant, racist folks who have weird ideas about the industry, so perhaps you should do a little self-education yourself.
