Do racing yards sell their race horses that are injured or retired from racing? I would really like to give a home to a retired reacehorse, but all the race horse rehoming charities expect loads of money in donations every month.
Where can you find the history of a retired race horse's career? I have a retired race horse, more than ten years off the track. I know nothing of her racing career. Is there any way to find out how many times she was raced, where, how she placed etc. I have her registration papers from the Jockey Club of America an of course her registration numbers. Could I find out that way?

I'm not asking anyones opinion on this subject, I want intellegent answers from descent people about how this act of cruelty can be stopped ! www.animalaid.org.uk/h/n/NEWS/news_horse/ALL/1604 Show more results from groups.google.ru I admit that I really don' know much about farm animals, far as horses go, but I thought my question started with my concern of Retired race horses, being "inhumanely" slaughtered, for food, after they are no longer useful. none of you will ever change the way I feel about this, because some of your answers are not relevant to the question of stopping cruelty against animals who you know don't belong on the food chain. stop talking silly! How can you help a newly retired race horse adjust to becoming just a regular horse again? It's been a few months since she's been racing and she's still a bit high strung, so will it just take a little more time? It seems like the sounds of motors or anything like that freaks her out...Is this normal?
how much should i pay for a thourough-bred retired race horse? im looking at a retired, thourough-bred champion race horse how much should i pay for him (srry no pic)
Why euthanise fallen race horses? Why are race horses with broken legs routinely shot? Could they not be sedated, treated and then given to a home for retired race horses to recover? It all seems a bit .... wasteful.
What do you think about getting a retired race horse? I've had years and years working with and riding horses and I was thinking about maybe getting a retired race horse some time after collage and after I have a stable job and enough money. I wanted to get one to save another race horse from the slaughter house but I'd also want one I can handle. Do they have the "manners" another trained horse would have? Can they be trained to do regular riding? No jumping or anything but maybe trail rides? Thanks! Ok so some have said its good and they can be very trainable and great horses and some have said is bad and they can be very untrainable (I would say horrible horses but no horse is horrible) horses. So how could I be sure I was getting a trainable and great horse when I go out to get one?
Is it usual for a retired race horse to gain a lot of weight the first month? They say Uncle Mo gained 100 pounds the first 4 - 5 weeks...
Race horses for sale? Is there a website where you can buy retired race horses? if so can u tell me plz? thanks
Race horses? Ok, I bascially want any thing and everything you know about riding race horses. I know I'll get a lot of race horses are great I've ridden loads of retired race horses but these ones are different. These horses are not well trained lesson horses. This is a follow up to that question about "I've almost lost confidence in riding help!" I've quit that stable but the other one I found only has retired race horses. I'm in a devolping country abroad and am about a intermediate riding level. I know to keep a lighter pressure on the reins and it doesn't take big kicks to get a canter so what else? Advice? Is it ok for me to ride race horses like this? If you've ever ridden horses that just retired plz tell me every thing. I need advice pronto! Thanks soo much! PLZ Give me advice! I really think that I could ride at this stable wit some help... You don't really understand the term "devolping country" I'm living in Azerbaijan! They don't train horses well here. The problme is I'm here for 4 years and feel that since I'm already 12 skipping these 4 years would make it impossible to have a career with horses. Is it better to ride a race horse freash off the track or a green horse that hasn't had training? I'm about intermidiate but am not sure what's best... If anyone has an idea what I should do help? why would a retired race horse act like a pain, after recovering from an illness? well on new years a very sweet retired race horse, and he loves the instructor and i very much since we nursed him back to health when he got injured unloading from a trailer, got very ill, we assumed it was colic or a severe sinus infection (he also had an epiglottis? i think the thing that keeps food and water from coming out of his nose removed so that made it worse) well we gave him some medications. and put him in quarantine until late january he seemed fine at first, the only problem was being a little bit lazy. after two weeks of slowly bringing him back into being ridden my instructor rode him and he tried to buck her off, she sent him to boot camp and he was fine until last week when she was grooming his saddle area well away from a kicking zone and kicked her right in the upper thigh and she went to urgent care. then i tried to ride him the next day, and he was constantly trying to bite me even when i combed his mane (his fave. part) so my other instructor put me on another horse. i talked with her this week and she said it wouldn't be as bad if he want so random about when he wanted to kick somebody, and we are all puzzled about why he is being a pain, we think it might be because he was stuck in a stall with a small paddock for almost a month, and when i took him out to the pasture as soon as i took off the halter i jumped back as he bucked and took off cantering, he also has gained some weight which he desperately needed to gain. i want my buddy back but im not sure how to proceed about it and if he doesn't improve soon he will be put up on the for sale list :( please help me find a solution!
How would i find a video of a specific horse race? I have a retired race horse, and i would like to know if there is a place where i could find a video or something of one of the races that he raced in. Are those kind of things recorded somewhere, or on record?
What Happens to race horses in Ireland when they retire? I hear they get slaughtered. But I am not sure. If any tragic stories on ex race horses please Share. I find it Sick that people treats such amazing animals like crap. Thank you
Do you think race horses should be trained at a later age than 2? As many people know, race horses start getting trained and raced at the fragile age of only 2 years old. At this stage the horse is still growing and it's skeletal structure isn't as strong as it is a few years later. As a result, there is a high chance of them getting seriously injured. Most racehorses are retired by the end of their fourth year due to injury, chronic illness or an inability to win in higher classes.

Blue Light Special A 13-year-old chestnut mare, she has a slightly enlarged fetlock on her right front. This does not seem to bother her or interfere with her performance in any way. According to her farm manager, she is a sound mover and an easy keeper. She is 15.2 hands or under and is suitable for pleasure riding. Her current location is Virginia. Sonny Puff An old boy of 17, he has done quality time at therapeutic riding programs. He likes to be turned out as much as possible. He is a good pasturemate, but can only be lightly ridden. How can i find pictures of my retired racehorse? I have a retired race horse that i now ride in jumping and dressage. I'm looking for pictures and maybe articles about him online but i have found nothing. I have found some stuff about his sire though. What happens to Jockey horses after their big race? What really happens to Jockey horses after they win or lose their "big" race? Do they "retire" the horses? Or do they keep on racing them until the horses get weak and brittle? The person that gives me a link with a nice, good answer gets 10 points. PLEASE ANSWER ACCURATELY!
anyone know a link for a page to search for race horse records? We have a retired race horse and was looking for info on him. we can make out the # on the inside of his lip but i cant find out how to get info with it. # Z4774 (we think) Any info will help and maybe there are more numbers he was wanting to eat when we was looking so he wasn't very cooperative at the time. Thank You.
My friends horse used to race but is retired she uses a rubber bit is this bad? the horse was okay in the beggining now he backs up and doesnt let her ride him. I think its the bit but im not so sure. I told her she needs to train him more any suggestions on what bit to get her?
I just bought a "retired" race horse. He is a five year old gelding and is said to have a calsified chip.. that does not bother him, the lady said that it's not floating, x rays were taken and there is nothing wrong with him, they even raced him after that....I want to know if it is possible that that is true because I talked to another friend who said he is basically useless. I am going to call the vet first thing Monday but wanted to know if anyone else has any hope for me that he will be ok, of course until he gets older then she said as he ages it will probably bother him with arthritis....I am hoping I didn't just get taken for a ride....:) Thank You!!!! We talked to the trainer who raced him...she said that he had one chip and the had surgery to remove it, then he chipped again, in the same knee....so should I have it removed? How much is the surgery? She also didn't remember(she has 30 other race horses)which knee it was...she was calling the vet to see if he still had the x rays and what not and if she could get them for us....thanks for all the info...calling the vet in 30 min at 9.... I am wanting to use him as a english peasure show horse....if he could maybe one day hunter jumper...
Can somebody explain why it is ok to murder (or euthanize) a weak/injured horses like Vick euthanizes dogs? First of all, let me say that I think that what Vick is accused of is disgusting and wrong...if he truly did it. But what I am confused about is why is it okay to kill a horse who becomes injured or is too weak to run races? Why is a dog more valuable than a horse? Race horses are raised specifically to entertain humans. In the mean time they suffer serioius injuries. Once horses retire from racing at an early age, they are killed. Most horses are killed the same way Vick is accused of killing dogs... shot, electrocuted, etc. So how is the way Vick treats dogs different than race horse breeders treat horses? Reminder..I am not defending Vick... I just want to know the differences in animal treatments.
Do horses "Want" to run? Do horses "Want" to win? I have a retired race horse and she appears to love to run and she seems to get the other horses around her to run laps. A "horse person" told me horses don't "want" to run nor do they "want" to win. What's your opinion?
Are Thourobreds (retired racer) bad for a beginner rider? I had been taking riding lessons for about 4 months, and my family might be getting a thourobred, (retired race horse), and was wondering if i would have trouble riding it. If it helps i am 16 and i would like to do dressage on the horse. Thanks for all your help!
I've had a fear of horses ever since i was thrown? can i get over it? PLEASE ANSWER!? so, my mom is horse crazy. at the time, i liked them, but i wasnt all out crazy. she entered me in 4-H, for horse classes in the exabition. our old horse got arthritis (spelling?) and we retired him, and our other horses arent trained enough. so we leased a retired race horse throughbred mare for the exabition. the practicing was fine, but when we got to the show, she was terrified. (i've ridden horses and shown them many times btw) (Her name was Symone) 10 minutes before my first class, i was out riding her around practicing, and i guess that being back at a show made her feel like she was back at a race track. and this really un-experienced horse girl came galloping her horse up behind me, and made Symone think it was a race. i held her back, so she started full out bucking. i eventually fell off. i got a concussion from the fall, and spent the next 6 hours in an ambulance, hospital room, and bed, being treated for s spinal fracture ( that i did not have). this all terrified me. i know people have had a lot worse falls, been killed and stuff from horses and have had the courage to get back on, so im pretty wimpy. but its been over 3 months since i have ridden. my mom wants me back in 4-H, (my opinion doesnt matter) and she got me another horse. i know that this horse is 'supposedly' a lot better than Symone, but i feel sick when i even think about getting back on at the EX. can i get over this fear? I've even had nightmares of this new horse bucking me off at the Ex, and i can't take it. my mom wont listen. its haunting my dreams? can this be stopped?
What are horses lips tattoed for? is it only TBs? Ok so we got a 7 year old "QH" from new Holland auction 2 months ago,we just saw today her upper lip it tattooed like a race horses, are only race horses tattooed? she does not look like a TB AT ALL! the auction said she was a buckskin QH and the wet said she looked like a QH and the farrier said the same, she is only 15h and doesn't look or act like a TB,she is dead beginner safe but I rode her the other day and found out she is FAST,the faster then the 5 year old retired race horse I rode in mexico lol,so are only race horses tattooed of are others tattooed as well? is there a way I can enter her number on a website and get her story? cause she was def abused and extremely neglected when we got her,any helpful info is appreciated :D Thanks hey people sorry I looked it up and you are wrong lol it took a while but I found a website that if you give them the number they can find the horses pedagree and give you new papers and tell the the origanal owner, also they dont have to be race horses to be tattoed, anyone can do it for just $50 just to make it easyier to find and identiift stolen horses :)
Behavior with new horses? So, I had adopted a retired race horse a little while ago, however, this barn was just not the right place for her. We found her a better home where the woman who bought her would train her/ spoil her. In return, we received two new horses. We named the paint Pocahontas and the other is a grey arabian named Duchess. We already have 3 other horses. My horse Bronco, my pony Nutmeg, and my grandfather's horse Butch. We had them out in the field the other day. Pocahontas has made fast friends with the others and they love her. But Duchess on the other hand shys away from all of them. But if Pocahontas and Duchess are along, they hang with each other closely and she seems alright with Nutmeg. I think her problem might be with the males...any way to introduce her to the boys so she can feel comfortable?
How to gain a horses trust? Okay well I have been taking care of a mare 11 year old retired race horse (the ones that pull the cart). Well she has never been ridden and she's been set out to pasture. I can only pet her shoulder and neck or else she get's uneasy and threathens to bite, kick or rear. I want to be able to gain her trust, I don't want to ride her, I want to be able to care for her, like brush her, I cannot do it because she gets angry and will threaten to kick or she'll make a shrill neigh. I can't afford to get a trainer and to be honest I'm not a pro with horses, she has no other horses with her, but her owner might bring another one of his horses so she can have a friend, it would be a mare that she gave birth to. I take care of her because her owner is getting older and finds it hard to take care of her. She is extremly stubborn and bull headed, the only worry about bringing a buddy for her to play around with is because they might run around and run into the fence, her paddock isn`t really big, but it`s big enough for her to run around in and graze and all that
I am not sure if I want to ride horses anymore? I just grew out of my pony and switched to horses but my trainer is having me ride his 3 year old mare. For awhile I was scared to death of that horse, mainly because my trainer puts alot of pressure on me when I ride her, but a few weeks ago when he was on vacation and someone else was teaching me I got over being afraid of the horse, but as soon as he got back and started teaching me again I began getting more and more stressed out. Now I have just lost the drive to ride. Whenever a lesson day comes around I find myself agitated and quick tempered, and praying that the lesson gets canceled. I am moving in a few weeks and I wont be riding at that barn afterward because we bought a ranch for our horses. (rescue horses, 2 ponies and a retired race horse) But find that I am less excited than I was when we bought the place. I also recently got into surfing and now, I frequently imagine living on the beach without horses, but I obsess over it now. I hate the feeling I get when I have to ride, like I'd rather be doing anything but go to the barn. I feel like its controlling my life and I want to get away! I'm hoping that after we move I will feel differently but I am not sure! I am just so scared that I have lost my passion for riding and that my parents will be disappointed in me because they are such a huge part of our lives! Please help! Yes, I am getting a new trainer when I move
How can i find information about a thoroughbred mare that has raced? I have a retired race horse, and i would like to find more about his mom's pedigree, and some pictures if possible. Are there any good sites i could look at?

want a horse sometime in the future? i have always wanted a horse and was hoping to own one on my own property some time in the future. I have worked with horses before as a barn hand cleaning, feeding and turning out and, worked in a horse hospital and i have rode before, so i know what all in store money and time wise, but i was wondering what is the best way to go about finding a good horse that;s still young, like how do I know if the horse is really sound, I wouldn't want a retired shcool horse they are ususally older, or have bad habits from other peoples poor riding habits, i would want to start out with three or two around the age of 5 to 9 years of age. are there people you can contact that can find a good horse, or can you get a buyer to give the horse a vet exam. Are retired race horses a good idea for a first time owner if you have a trainer who will retrain them. And how much do most trainers charge for general training like walk, trot, canter, work?
My horse limps on his back leg, what should I do? My horse is about 8 years old. He is a beautiful retired race horse. He is fine when I trot and walk him but when I go to canter he starts to limp and doesn't put much pressure on it. My aunt said that it looks like he is turning the leg in a little but i don't know what to do. Do you think it would help if I wrap it? Its not swelled or warm.
Do thoroughbreds exsist that haven't been raced? I'm looking into buying a horse for hunter/jumpers. I do like Thoroughbreds alot but it appears that every TB that I see on dreamhorse or equine.com are x-race horses. I'm really not interested in a retired race horse because I've been down that route before. But I suppose my question is, are all TB's X-race horses?
someone's about to train me to become a jockey, what should i do? my mom and step dad met a horse trainer who owns million dollar race horses and told him that I've always wanted to become a jockey and he said that he'd train me. but it'd be my first time riding at a gallop and all i want to know is if it's scary going at a full gallop on a retired race horse.
How do I get my horse to go past a trot? My horse is a retired thoroughbred race horse. He is 16 yrs old. He will not go past a trot. He gets testy when I use the subtle skills that I know he knows to get him to gallop. He puts his ears back, swishes his tail in a whiping way, almost tries to buck, swings his head around. Help. I'm not interested in racing him. I would just like a nice smooth gallop instead of the trot. Thank you, Kelly

video race horse name for charity? I am going to a fund raiser. It is dinner, drinks and horse racing... The horse racing is put on by a company that comes in and does it by way of video.... You get to pick the name of your race horse and have to turn it in ahead of time so that they can put it on the video. I am not exactly sure how this is done but it is supposed to be really really fun. I dont want any "pretty" names. I need some that will add to the fun of the night. example of my friends horses : Retired Hooters Girl (this friend is known for her rather large attributes) My other friend named hers Anal retentive (her husband is a genius and the name really applies to him) My last name is Spiker so I wanted to do something with that... what does my horses behavior mean? i started taking care of a horse that is retired from saddle racing. he belongs to an older man who didnt have much interaction with him for about a year. charlie (the horse) was not lead, or ridden, nor was he brought in to his stall..hes a very good horse most of the time, but when i walk into his stall to get his bowl for grain, and walk into his stall to give him his grain he will lower his head towards the floor, and it looks like hes tellin me yes. is this a nervous behavior? my friend keeps her horse at this barn, and she said that he is a very nervous horse. he also will rub his head on me pretty rough sometimes if i turn my back to him for to long, or i stand near his head when im brushing him. is this a sign that he thinks hes head of pack between me and him? i love him like crazy, but at the same time he needs to know im the boss. hes 11 or 12, and thinks he still has to run every where, and just wants to go go go..will he ever get out of this, or is this a life time thing for him because he was a race horse? charlie gets daily turn out, and plenty of time to get his energy out..i also have some toys for him to play with, his stall is a pretty big stall. charlie gets lots and lots of lovin from me, i brush him everyday, hug and kiss him like crazy when he is eating..i have sat on his back, and my friend lead us up and down the barn, but he didnt want to move the first few times i sat on him. i spend a lot of time grooming him and spending time with him, it just seems like hes being pushy almost..and i want him to understand he can not push me around, im in head pecking order not him. i have always been around calm quiet horses, so charlie is new to me.

What do you think of this horse? This is my 6 year old retired race horse he is a Thoroughbred he won over $35,000 then they retired him...he is 16.2 and his hooves are a little long in these pics but i realize that...I want to know what you think of his conformation and size and matter...he has not had any exercise in over 2 years becasue I just got him recently, after the horses are retired they are put down after a few months so i went and picked him up for free...(thanks to the LOTS of help from my neighbors!!!!) so he was a little fat but i got most of that worked off of him. His name is Lucky Star because i saved him and because his only marking is a star:) ALSO on the last picture what do you think his star looks like? http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu36/oscar22406/butt.jpg http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu36/oscar22406/ride2.jpg http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu36/oscar22406/ride.jpg http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu36/oscar22406/IMG_2728.jpg His hooves have not been trimmed because...if you didn't notice...i just got him and the farrier hasn't had a chance to come out yet!...That's the problem that last detail was made for the person who made a not so nice comment... here's another pic of his head : ) http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu36/oscar22406/05240910571.jpg
What do you think of this horse Pics Included : )? -Name: Lucky Star -6 year old -Thoroughbred -Retired Race Horse -Won over $35,000 before he was retired...after the horses are retired they are put down after a few months and so I went and picked him up : ) he was free! -He rides great and adapted great to the western saddle and I am starting him on barrels...he is EXTREMELY fast! -I plan to start him back in and english saddle for show jumping soon too!! -I've had him for a month or so and he wasn't ridin for close to 2 years:( they had a soft spot for him so they kept him for more than the normal 3 months :) -Let me know what you think of his confirmation please : ) (he is resting on one back leg in this one so it sets him off a little) http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu36/oscar22406/IMG_2723.jpg http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu36/oscar22406/05240910571.jpg http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu36/oscar22406/IMG_2728.jpg http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu36/oscar22406/ride.jpg http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu36/oscar22406/ride2.jpg http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu36/oscar22406/butt.jpg I put the last pic on there because a lot of ppl ask for hind quarter pictures for conformation that's not me riding him it's my neighbor she was going to lope on him for the first time and since he hasn't been ridin in 2 years she wasn't really worried about her riding structure...she was worried about staying on :P lol yea and i think the same thing about his age he's till young:) he still has a good possible 18 years left :) now that he's not being put down at least :) i LOVE him so much! the parades yesterday went great!! he didn't spoke once or anything and there was even a semi right in front of us during one of the parades that kept blaring on it's horn! Were so lucky to have each other :) oh and i measure him today and he's exactly 17 hands!

What is Larry Jones gonna do now that he's retired? I know that the last Derby was his last and Friesian Fire was his last horse. Is he still in the horse racing business now that he's retired?
How long should a barrel racing horse compete for? My dad thinks its time for me to retire my horse but I think she can go till the end of the rodeo season. She is 5 and a half years old and has been racing for almost three years. I have a younger horse in training right now, do you think I should compete on the new mare or the old one?

Is a retired race horse a good horse to own? I am only 13 and i am getting a horse in a little while , as long as my parents don't change their mind. Mt dad has friends that own race horses and they say that adopting a retired race horse would be good. My mom says they are high strung though. I have friends that own retired race horses and i ride one at my stables and they are great. I think if i find the right one it would be perfect. What do you think i should do?
What was the oldest horse to be raced? I recently heard of a TB horse "Assault" being raced til he was 7 years old and retired. He was put down at the age of 28 in 1971. Are there other horses that raced til they were older? How old were they when they were retired from racing?
new horse. lame in the rear end? i just get a thoroughbred. shes older, and hasnt been riden in over 2 years. shes a retired race horse. shes absolutely a sweetheart, but i noticed she drags her back legs. bad. im not sure if shes really lame, or if she just normally walks like that. she did get kicked by my other horse when we first got her, but it was only one leg, not two. i bought like a gel that relieves arthiritis pain and such. i dunno. anyone have any ideas?
Thoroughbred vs. Standardbred? I adopted a horse through a retired race horse organinzation that is pretty much just about standardbreds, so they told me my horse was a standardbred but i looked at his pedigree online through the All Breed Database and it says he's a thoroughbred? Could maybe you help me find the real answer? His name is Never Smoother, his mother is Never Dance and his father is Adios Vic Thanks :D Correction! His fathers name is Vic's Jamie, his grand father is Adios Vic! Thanks :D
Feeding hay versuses grass? What is the benefit of feeding hay over just pasture? I have 6 horses on 30 acres of timothy and rye where the horses stay 24/7. Only hay available in the area are bahia, timothy, and alfalfa. My horses do not need extra protein. They are not ridden alot, as a matter of fact I have a 10 mont colt, a five year overwight arabX, an extremely pregnant mare, a retired polo pony, a retired race horse and a rescue that has no front teeth and has foundered badly in the past so she is just hanging out grazing for the rest of her life. I do supplement their diet with grain daily.
treatment for horse with arthritis? horse info -9 years -17.2 hands(maybe higher) we have had x-rays done and he has arthritis in his hock. he is a retired race horse and this is probly why he has arthritis. i know there are going to be people saying i cant do anyting...so if that is you dont say anything. i will do anything for a treatment for his arthritis. it does not matter if it is pricey or not. or where it would have to be done but pleas if you know of anything or anyone who can treat artthritis then tell me he is also a jumper right now and he loves it. and i know he would not want to just sit in a pasture or change to a light riding horse or anything like that. so i would love for him to still be a jumper
Should I lease my horse? I'm a full time college student, and I work. I love my horse but I'm worried that he will be neglected as soon as my full time classes start. I just won't have the time to ride him everyday. He's a young well trained (also retired race horse) thoroughbred. He would be awonderful horse for someone to take lessons on. He rides English and Western, he also jumps. I don't know how high he'll go but he's jumped fences and trees! I don't know anything about leases.. Could I have some tips, and let me on on the good and the bad? Thanks!
Is this an interesting topic for a speech?? I have to do an intrest speech and I was going to talk about how I got and trained the horse I ride he is a retired race horse and I was wondering if that would bore you to death to hear 3-5 min about that if you didn't know anything about horses. Would you care or be like "so what who cares why did she think we want to know about that"??
how do i get my mare to gain weight-tried just about everything? I have a 24 year old appendix retired race horse-one of 12 at my farm, and she is just skinny. I have tried yeast pellets, molasses, weight builder (big waste of money), oil, vitamins and minerals, beet pulp, and floating her teeth. Vet says shes healthy so does the farrier. She is not at the bottom of the pecking order either. I grain daily and even tried making a mash, which I find she don't like eating as much as the regular grain. Teeth checked few months ago and they were good, vet said in the spring she will need to be rechecked. They are on grass daily and now it is getting colder, they have been hayed daily 6-8 bales per day of mixed timothy/clover. wormed regularly and wormed gain today (and I change the wormers too). They have enough mineral blocks with selenium to lick on. We don't exercise her regularly and she isn't being chased by the other horses. So what am I doing wrong? And please don't tell me to put her down. She isn't ready for that, she still has a gleam in her eyes and does not appear sick.
why do we let? retired race horse's be eaten by those garlic stinkin frogs on the other side of the channel

Do you consider horse racing a form of animal abuse? I am appalled to find out on the evening news that a race horse had to be put down because he broke an ankle during a race. A race horse that had broken an ankle was no longer good for racing anymore, so they put him down in order to save possibly thousands of dollars in vet bills. So much for the economics of horse racing. Just imagine doing this to a human being who had broken his ankle. Do you think a race horse who was injured in a race should be allowed to retire in peace and receive full pension and benefits?
help me please? can i train a retired racing horse to do barrel racing in the rodeo by 4 mouths that is when rodeo starts and i need some tips on how i can train her really fast and she is so stubburn
I would love to become a race horse jockey! how do i do it? i have a lot of experience in horses and my mother used to ride champion show horses. sadly after she had me she retired and lost all of her contacts. how does someone get into this sport? do they get paid well? do they have a max height and weight? please any info would be awesome. -Mike
Is there any good horse racing system that you have tried ? Tell me if it worked for you. I need to get it for my parents. They are retired and very much into horse racing.
Race Horse Mystery!!? My friend has a race horse, and we know nothing about it's history. I wanna know something. Tell me if any of this stuff rings a bell to you. Ok here is what the horse looks like and stuff Thourbred retired gray with specks original owners dead has innitials on his front shoulder If you know any race horses like that, plz tell me their names!! What could be the cause of this colicing? My 21 year old TB gelding has coliced 2 x's in the past month. He gets equine senior (soaked) all the hay he can eat (in the stall at night and round bales dureing the day). There are 2 warmed troughs of clean water in the field, and stream, and he has 2 buckets of fresh water in his stall. He is wormed every 6 weeks, has his teeth done every year and is in good condition, with no stress. He is a retired race/show horse who had ulcers when i bought him 16 yrs. ago. He had cancer (sarcoid tumors on head and neck...since i bought him) which just seems to have disappeared last year...vet has never seen anything like it. the only change in the past 30 days was i pulled the hind shoes (first time ever) and started him on cortaflex, because he has arthritis in his hocks. The vet does not have any answers...could it be the cortaflex? thanks for the good advice, so far! i will add the loose salt to his feed, he does have a salt lick, but never uses it. also, he is on poor pasture...so he may well be injesting dirt, because there is not much grass left (15 acres w/5 others), and the field is never rested.
My ex-race horse...........? I have an 8 year old ex-racing Thoroughbred gelding, he ran 12 races.......but was to slow and retired at 2 yo. So was he worked to hard when he was to young? Will he have soundness problems later in life? He is perfectly heathy and sound right now, and I'm am useing him for showjumping. He is exercised (light to moderate) 4-6 times a week. Should I worry about him being sound and heathy? Thanks!
How many people have retired TB racers? How many people out there have ex TB racers? Every time I ask a question about my TB people assume is an ex racer. I live in Northern California (which means north of Sacramento) and the "retirees" aren't so common up here. My TB has been ridden western his whole 10 years of existance and most people think they can't or shouldn't be ridden western. Is there a reason for this? Just curious. He is a great western horse, nice smooth ride but definately not racing material! =) Hey thanks! That is good to know that there are others that do western with TBs and I want to Barrel Race him, I think he would do great! I have just heard so much negative feedback on western TBs I wanted to hear something else. Thanks people for the response on this. I am SO happy to know there are other Western Riders our there that ride TB's!
Jumping help?!!!!? I have a 6 year old quarter horse gelding who was retired from the race track 2 years ago. I plan to make him a game horse. One game requires him to jump 12 to 18 inch hurdle so I started training him to jump. sometimes he jumps very well and other times he just runs right through it. any help to get him to jump consistantly would be appreciated. he's very big (16.5 hh, 1200 pound) so I've also thought of using him as a jumper. he runs barrels and poles great it's just the jump. If you're wondering I'm a very experienced rider (have ridden race horses) and have trained horses (went to state in horse training for 4-H last year) so don't hold any training tactics back. *sorry I must have pushed the wrong number and thanks for correcting me he's 16. 3 hands I am lunging him over the jumps. have been for a month. I have yet to try to ride him over the jumps
Adopting a horse from the race track? 2 friends of mine rescued thoroughbreds, retired ones, from the racetrack. How much are they usually? I've heard they are cheaper. And is it worth getting one and training it?
Racehorse rescue? I am an intermediate horse back rider and have been riding for 6 years. I am looking to get a horse this spring and am really interested in adopting a retired thoroughbre race horse, wether the horse has recovered from an injury or is simply to slow/old to race. I read on the thoroughbred breed and know the downs. I am just looking for a pleasure horse. But not every thoroughbred is your spooky, flighty racehorse right? I would really appreciate advice from this breed's owners and especially people who have adopted retired racehores. Thanks. Sites: Rerun.org Horseadoption.com
What should I name my new horse??? I recently bought a retired standardbred race horse. He is 11 years old, 16HH, Bay with black mane and tail. He is very docile and sweet, he gets nervous with new situations but never mean or never takes off. He is very fast but doen not take off or go fast without you asking him of it. He came with the name Tiger(I really don't like the name) but doesn't know his name at all so it's okay to change it. He is one of the sweetest horses I have ever met and needs a perfect name! Best Name- 10 Points!!!
Who is the best active Horse Racing Jockey in the US? Now the Jerry Bailey is retired.. who is the best jockey in the US?
Horse Q: Where to find thoroughbreds about to retire from racing? I've been thinking about possibly getting an OTTB. I have had one before, worked out well but took a LOT of time--since I'm not having much luck with my horse search, I figured I'd open up to other options. How do you go about acquiring an off-the-track TB? I know that there are numerous organizations, but I prefer to go to the track/trainer myself. How would I go about that? Do I contact the race track?
Where would you go if you had a time machine? I would go to the future and find out who won all the World series and Super Bowls and horse races, then come back and place a few bets and retire. I could go back in time and take a list of all the world series winners and super bowl winners too and retire in the past as a very rich and a very smart man. How cool would that be? Do you know where I can get a time machine somewhere online?
Father is retired, no pension. Income is from 1 house rent. Wich ITR form he shuld use.ITR2 has many sections? ITR2 form has too many sections which do not apply like capital gains, horse race income etc ... What shuld be done for these. Or shuld we use some other form? Please answer
Do most great racehorses not run many races in their career? I'm no racing expert, but I've noticed that with horses that win the Triple Crown for instance, like Secretariat, they retire after 10-15 races or so. It just seems to me that this is a rather small sample space to rank horses against each other among the all-time greats.
What do you think of the George Washington/Holy Roman Emperor saga? For those of you that don't know, George Washington has been taken out of stud duties as he has turned out to be infertile: Coolmore have responded by retiring Holy Roman Emperor in his place with immediate effect. Antoone else think this is appalling? Its not like Coolmore need the money, and Aiden O'Brien seems VERY unhappy about it. Unless a horse suffers an injury, there is no way a horse should be retired after only 1 season to race. Perhaps they will send George back out on the racetrack, but I'd say that's doubtful.
