How tall was the Thoroughbred race horse Barbaro? How many hands high was he? I can't seem to find info on this. Please provide a link to your source, if possible. The Wikipedia entry on Barbaro doesn't mention how tall he was. Barbaro was not sent to a "glue factory," nor is he buried and "3 feet tall. " His owners had him cremated and are keeping the urn for the time being. I asked a simple question because I am doing research on the heights of Kentucky Derby winners and for some reason, a documented height is hard to find for this horse. I think it is very sad that some people responded with such disrespectful answers to a simple question.
What is the most popular thoroughbred horse race in India? The reason why I am asking this in the cricket section is because I have asked it in the travel section India and I got no reply. I am hoping that because there are some avid fans of cricket that you would also be horse racing fans. I have posted it before in the horse racing section no answer.

What'is the most popular Group 1 horse race in Mexico and why is it so popular. I have asked this question in the horse racing section but no luck. Thoroughbred Race horse stance? Ok so i am training my ex-race horse for inhand. Showmanship etc. She needs to stand square. I am training her just fine except: She seems to always want to stand with her front feet square and the and one back foot her right back foot forward. Like and arabian. : * . kinda like that lol when she needs to be like this : : I was wondering if there is a specific ways race horses are trained to stand, or is this just my horse? Just wondering, never really thought about it until i had a race horse. Thanks!

Are there any thoroughbred trainers or owners who would be willing to answer some questions? I am an elementary school student doing research on Thoroughbreds. I need to know. First, do Thoroughbreds require any special tack, training or treatment that normal non-racing horses don't need? Second, what are thoroughbred health problems that are caused by racing or are more dangerous for thoroughbreds than other horses? Third, if I was to buy a thoroughbred and race that horse, what important things would I need to know? Last, what sets thoroughbreds apart from other horses?
I have some questions on exercizing race horses? Hey, I am a horse lover that knows alot about horse racing. I've really thought about doing it for an after school job. I wanna race them but I am too heavy. But if I get down to weight,I probly will. Oh,I'm talkin'about quarter horse racing, not thoroughbred racing just to let you know. Ok,about the questions... Is there a weight limit? Is 5'3" too tall? How much do they get paid? What requirements are needed? Is there anything else I should know? Also, if you got any do's and dont's,that would be Very helpful. Thanx!
How to fatten up a thoroughbred ex-racing horse? I have a thoroughbred ex-racing horse and can't seem to put any weight on him. His teeth have been checked by a dentist and he has been wormed and received all vaccinations. He is currently on two scoops of hard feed and a scoop of beet pulp per meal twice a day but he cannot seem to gain any weight. Any suggestions on what I should feed him to help him to gain weight? But I don't want to feed him anything that may cause aggression in him. Thanks!
How tall is the average race horse? I lease an OTTB gelding, and he's a stakes Thoroughbred and stands at around 17.2 hh. Perhaps I'm just used to his big height, but it seems like race horses on TV dramas (I don't mean horse racing TV) are a little on the small side. Then again, I know next to zero about horse racing... So how tall are racing Thoroughbreds?
What sources are available for thoroughbred horse racing performance statistics? The statistics would include, but not be limited to past performance, pedigree, track name & track conditions, gate position, odds at post time, etc. There are many stats available, but they are in PDF format and must be purchased. I am looking for data in a table or tabular form and preferably free of charge. Tab delimited or comma separated formats are ideal. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
What should my new horses show name be? He is a 16.2hh bay thoroughbred ex-race horse and he's very fast and constantly on his toes. He can be hot headed (typical thoroughbred!). He has a baby face and jumps like a deer!! Can anyone think of anything?? Thanks
Would you ban thoroughbred horse racing? In the aftermath of the trackside death of Eight Belles at the Kentucky Derby, and considering how these horses have been horribly bred (too much inbreeding), would you want to ban the racing of these horses as a form of animal abuse? In the aftermath of the trackside death of Eight Belles at the Kentucky Derby, and considering how these horses have been horribly bred (too much inbreeding), would you want to ban the racing of these horses as a form of animal abuse? Give me your reasons for a "yes" or "no" answer.
How could I come to get a summer job at a thoroughbred race track? I have always loved horses but about 10 years ago I discovered my true passion to be Thoroughbred flat racing. I can't get enough of it! I tape it when it is on television and read about constantly. I do not, however, own a horse. Nor do I ride regularly due to my mother having an accident involving a horse when she was younger. I know that it would be next to impossible for me to get a job riding horses immediately with next to nothing hands-on experience but horse racing is my life and I want nothing to do with any other career. I would love to work with horses over the summer (particularly race horses), and i hope that someone can at least give me some advice or encouragement regarding my crazy dream of becoming a jockey (despite my height) or exercise rider or even out rider. Thank you!!!!!

Just wanted to see if anyone out there can tell me how a track assigns the odds for a horse race, is there a specific method for each track...? or do they have a formula that is used throughout the horse racing industry....why is it that the track always seem to have a good analysis of the top 4 finishers in a race...?

What does it take to run a Thoroughbred horse racing/breeding stable? What does it take to run a Thoroughbred horse racing/breeding stable? I am very passionate about horses I have ridden and owned them all my life. I definitely want to be involved in them and recently I have been very interested in owning my own race horses, racing them, and breeding them. The more I learn, the more I want to do it. So please any input that you think would help to learn and prepare more and what to expect would be great. Where do I start? I'm 20 now and live in the UK i've worked for the past five years to get money together to Support me with whatever i choose to do i would just like realistic opinions on whether it would be a good idea or not. I don't own any land but a man i know has just bought 50 acres and told me he planned to sell some of it. Before i get to into the idea i'd like to know how i'd start?
What are good barrel saddles for thoroughbred built horses? I have a quarter horse gelding that has alot of racing bloodlines and built alot like a thoroughbred. He is narrow with a good wither and ALOT of shoulder. I have a Marlene McCrae saddle now but it seems to be sitting all on his shoulders instead of on his back and withers. I think it is pinching him when he brings his shoulder back.. any suggestions??
What is the best bit to use for my thoroughbred ex race horse/hunter jumper. I want to trail ride her western. I bought her at a horse sale about a month ago. I have been out of the horse scene for a few years now so I'm a little on the rusty side. I rode her at the auction to make sure she was sound but I haven't ridden her since. She is the typical thoroughbred who is just a tad bit on the fiesty side. I want to know what Sort of bit I should use. Most of the people I ride with all use a tom thumb bit, but I've heard such horrible things about them I just don't know. I was thinking about using a kimberwicke bit. I thought that would still provide with me a little leverage not nearly as harsh as a tom thumb.
why don't horse racers race non-thoroughbreds? surely there are regular horses that can run fast too? but i only ever see thoroughbred horses racing in the big races, is there a reason for this? is it the rules or something? thanks!!
Can mixed breed horses race in official races? I'm writing a story and in it a horse whose mother was a thoroughbred mare that escaped from a racing and breeding ranch and bred with a wild mustang. In the story her young daughter is captured to be a rodeo horse by the same people who owned her mother. Anyways she is later sent to an English ranch to be broke after proving to be too wild and there she shows amazing skill and speed on the track so they enter or well try to enter her in a race. Also her mother would've had papers and proof of lineage.
how am i able to identify my horses brandings? i just bought a 5yo thoroughbred ex race horse with no papers and would like to know a little bit more about her. on her left shoulder she has the markings 377 (the 3 basically looks like a sideways M though) and on her right shoulder she has a 3 above a 4. any information anyone has for me is much appreciated (:
thoroughbred racehorse stud fees? whats the average stud fee from a champion thoroughbred race horse? (or embryo fee for champion racehorse mare) and whats the average wins a champion makes (money) during his or her lifetime of racing? oh shut up racing is not cruel!! these horses are born and bred to race, and they love it! just because some horses get injured or killed in a race doesn't mean it's cruel. accidents happen! even off of the track, to everyday horses!
Is a Thoroughbred race, for a filly running against colts more grueling on the females, physiologically? I'm wondering if there should be serious consideration for fillies to run races that are geared to only females, such as the Maiden races.....after yesterday's tragedy, although it is said to have been a freak accident, I am wondering if these physically grueling horse races are becoming inhumane. It seems as though the earnings (AND "life insurances" of these horses) have become more important than the lives and safety issues of race horses.....are fillies physically more fragile than colts? Out of 20 entries, only one was a filly.....there HAS to be a reason for this, or else we would be seeing even ratios of male vs. female in these races. Any feedback or answers would be appreciated, thank you.
I am writing a paper on horse racing? What should I add to my paper?? this is what i have so far please give me some advice. It has to be 3 pages long. The most popular type of horse racing is known as Thoroughbred racing. Horse racing is an equestrian sport that has been practiced for a long time. Chariot racing in the early days is the same form of horse racing. The type of race and events all differ; it really depends on where the race is located each country has different rules and regulations. Thoroughbred racing has certain types of tracks. The races usually occur on a flat surface of dirt, polytrack, or grass. The races consists of a bunch of young horses usually around three years old.Thoroughbred races run at a wide variety of distances, from 5 furlongs to 1½ miles.
How do I become a racehorse trainer? I am a 16 year old girl in Phoenix. All of my life I have wanted to train thoroughbred race horses. I am good at betting and can tell which 43 horses will come in the money most of the time. How do I achieve my dream? I have always loved watching racing and have been riding and around horses since I was 5. Right now, the plan is to go to Colorado State and get an Equine Science degree. Is this the best plan? Thanks for all your help!
What is the best way to handicap harness horses? I'm an experienced handicapper for horse racing, but only recently got into trotters and pacers. I need some ideas on how best to handicap these races. I also want to know if what I've learned in thoroughbred racing is properly transferable.
How do I get my horse to go past a trot? My horse is a retired thoroughbred race horse. He is 16 yrs old. He will not go past a trot. He gets testy when I use the subtle skills that I know he knows to get him to gallop. He puts his ears back, swishes his tail in a whiping way, almost tries to buck, swings his head around. Help. I'm not interested in racing him. I would just like a nice smooth gallop instead of the trot. Thank you, Kelly
Everyday cooking rice to fatten up thoroughbreds?? (Ex race horse)? I have a ex race horse thoroughbred, as any horsey person will know how hard it is to fatten a thoroughbred without heating them up (Sending them fizzy) I have been told that rice - yes just everyday cooking rice - is a great fattener, and wont heat them up. Is this true? and any other suggestions on fattening a thoroughbred with out the 'heating/fizzing' up?? and yes i already no to precook the rice, because is does swell, and if given to horse uncooked can give them colic and kill. any idea's would be much appreciated.. cheers. Hi thanx Ava... I did know rice can kill... and the reason he's not on oats is because he heats up very easliy pretty much a sniff of the stuff he heats up... i put him on flacked barley, 'coz apparently it isnt supposed to heat them... but it has and he is only on a handful of the stuff... and also with oats he has the 'runs' and apparently it's because he has been getting to much oats, i/e oaten hay, oaten chaff etc, so now i have just got him onto wheaten chaff and wheaten hay. but thanks anyway big help!! Hi thanx D, I honestly don't mind when he's a little 'hot headed' however he does, yes he is a nut at times he has gone through 2 fences previously when hot... but thnx everyone.....
What do you think of the coloured thoroughbred horses that may be racing in the UK in 2009? He's gorgeous and his name is Ben and he could be racing next year in this country. More coloured thoroughbreds born and registered in the UK are also approaching their second year, so it will be interesting to see how these newcomers get on when they start their racing careers. Ben, the first to be registered with Weatherbys was born at West Down Stud Devon on 26/2/2007 the first foal of US imported stallion I Was Framed. Would be interested if anyone knows any more about these horses and your views as to what it will mean to racing..Jac x http://www.horsetalk.co.nz/archives/2007/04/087.shtml There is a skewbald filly running in this country that I have heard about called Honeypot Splenda from the Honeypot Stud in Somerset. She is not a pure thoroughbred. I believe she has run over hurdles at Newton Abbot (pulled up)and on the flat at Bath (last of 11 runners). There may also be others like her that have run this year, has anyone seen any? http://www.honeypotstuds.co.uk/

Hi! Does anyone know of any Thoroughbred trainers, owners or jockeys in Texas? My Questions are: Main Thoroughbred diseases or injuries? If I should buy a Thoroughbred and race him/her, what important things would I need to know? What sets Thoroughbreds apart from other horses? Why is horse - racing called " the sport of Kings?" Questions for trainers: What can you tell me about your career? What do you think is the most important thing to know about the Race Track and its Horses? How did working in this field change your life? What do you think future racing will look like? I'd also like to learn a little about how the breed began?
In Thoroughbred horse racing jockey statistisics what does DstSurf, SireAll stand for & how is ROI figured? All the above is from the Trackmaster reports from Equibase. I think I figured that DstSurf means distance surface...but what does that stand for since the displayed stats don't differentiate distances or surfaces? Does it mean the distance and surface comparable to the race currently entered? How is the ROI calculated? (return on investment?) What does SireAll stand for? I'm really in the dark on that one! It looks like you are right about the DstSurf. I still remain clueless about what SireAll means tho. Any other ideas?
I want to excersize race horses when I get old enough...questions? Ok I really really want to excersize race horses when I get old enough. Are the horses really freakish? I learned to ride on off the track thoroughbreds, so I know that they can be psyco, but are they alll really nutty when you try to excersize them? I watched videos of this one guy where the horse reared constantly for 10 minutes before he could even make him walk. i'm not scared of it, but I was just wondering. Also, is it more dangerous then doing eventing/jumping? Thanks in advance.
