Stopping two 8 month old golden retriever puppies from jumping? We have trained our two golden retriever puppies pretty well, but when someone comes in to a room, someone new or myself, both puppies jump and bite clothing or shoes. They calm down about 5 minutes or so after. We have tried ignoring them, telling them down and pushing them off...what else can we do??? Due to the fact that we both work all day, I'm a bit concerned that getting a 2-3 month old puppy would not be in the best interest of the puppy as we'd be gone most of the day during weekdays. Are my fears unrealistic or warranted? I want to make sure that the dog is not only a good fit for us, but that we're also a good fit for the dog. If a puppy is not a good fit, how do we go about getting a dog that is 12-15 months old? This seems harder to do. Does taking a golden retriever puppy on the beach hurt his joints? We have a golden retriever puppy who is 15 1/2 weeks old. We go to the beach 1 or 2 times a week, but only for 15-20 minutes. That is his only walk for the day. He walks calmly on the soft sand, and then on the hard sand he sometimes runs, but not fast. He doesn't go in the sea. Will doing this hurt his joints? As a breed they are pre disposed to possible joint problems and I am worried that by walking him for too long now while his joints are developing I will do him long term damage. I have plenty of time and we both really enjoy our walks. Most days I walk for around 40 minutes - sometimes once, sometimes twice per day but today we walked for about 1 hour and 45 minutes (at least 75 mins off the lead) as it was a glorious morning and we have a fab lake close by to walk around (lots of nice smells and the odd little swim for Donut!) He really wasn't tired at all during the walk but obviously had a lovely long sleep afterwards. We both LOVE walks like this but I really don't want to set up poblems for his later life. I feel he needs more exercise than the 5 minutes per month of his age that our breeder recommended but his health and development are important to me and I really don't want to compromise that! Any suggestions would be welcome

If she is eating and they come up to her she will growl and bite them. I make sure she has enough food and put down 2 separate bowls for them...well she goes and eats all their food first (they can't reach her bowl). The other day, I swear, she ate 20 cups of food, then was sick! Same with the water she will drink all their water.
