Do Maine Coon Cats make good indoor pets or do they need to be outdoors as they are natural born hunters? I live in a condo with 4 adult cats and a dog and we want to get a Maine Coon, but the cat would be totally indoors, Maine Coons are known as hunters, but other then a few dust bunnies, there isn't anything to hunt in the house. Are they happy as indoor cats?

What is the ideal weight for Maine Coon cats? I have three Maine Coons, one male, who is part Tabby. He is about 18 pounds. The other two, females, are purebred Maine Coons. One is about 14 pounds, the other is about 16 pounds. The male is 9 years old, the 14 pound female is 8 years old, and the 16 pound female is 5 years old. Is there a cancer link in Maine Coon Cats. A friend has lost 3 now and all to the same kind of cancer.? Us it a problem of that particular breed? She is afraid to get another Maine Coon because of this. I think all three were somehow related but all had the same father but different mothers. I do not know the actual type of cancer but it was mentioned at one point by her vet that it was spread from cat to cat.

Do Maine coon cats come in short hair? We have two lovely cats that I adopted from a family 3 years ago. The owner said they came from the same litter, mom is black short-haired and dad is an orange tabby. In the same litter, they also had an orange brother. I've been looking up what type of cats my kitties are and one of them is clearly a Maine Coon cat, with long hair, bushy tails, I've looked up pictures and it is definitely a Maine Coon. But the other one is a short-haired tuxedo kitty! The only resemblance is his stockiness and his characteristic is definitely Maine Coon but he doesn't look anything like one! So Do Maine coon cats come in tuxedo short haired? I don't understand how they could be from the same litter because they look so distinctively different but they behave exactly the same! Thanks! Thank you for the replies. In response to the last answer, he does have the tuft on his neck and his ears and in size and shape, he looks just like a Maine Coon. "High-Maintenance" Maine Coon Cats? I have 2 gorgeous 5-year old Maine Coon Cats (1 male, 1 female) that I love dearly. But the 2 of them have the worst hygiene. They know how to use the litter box but they still poop on the floor. They have hairballs often (even though I brush them daily) and throw up on my bed. Maine coon cats and rats? I love cats and would love to get a maine coon in the near future, but I have no idea where the nearest breeder is. I usually rescue cats, but I've always wanted a maine coon but I've never seen them in any rescue centre, if anyone knows the location of any breeders could you please let me know? Maine coon? My kitten is 9 months old, and he weighs a solid 11 lbs (according to me holding him on the scale). Anyway, I figure he is a big boy. He isn't fat, he is just big. How to select and find a good Maine Coon Cat Breeder? My husband and I have wanted a Maine Coon for years. Our son's friend's parents know someone who would like to have a litter, but they are waiting to get enough commitments before breeding. I would like to know, how do I know if she is a good person to get a cat from? Who else has problems with their Maine Coon Cats? Our Maine Coon kitty doesn't like to poop in his litter box. He is 4 years old and we got him from some friends not too long ago. We already had a cat. Apparently he has always used two litter boxes. One he always pees in and the other he poops in. Well the cat we already had doesn't know that habit so she goes in both boxes. I understand that he probably doesn't like that. But we have even tried clumpable litter and we scoop everything out a couple times a day. It still doesn't work and he will poop right outside of the litter box. I heard through a friend that their Maine Coon cat does the same thing. Sometimes, it will ball articles of clothing up and use the bathroom on them. Fortunately mine is not that bad but is this common in Maine Coon cats?? I need to know because my husband is ready to find him a new home. Please help. Thanks! We have had him now for about 3 months. And there is no way that we can have more than two litter boxes in the house. We have a townhouse and two is enough.
Question about two Maine Coon Cats? I have two really nice Maine Coon cats. This is the deal: they are both really nice cats and they don't hiss or scratch or anything like that. It is amazing how submissive they seem to be. This is the problem: I got the two of them from this really nice lady who also had a dog. One of my cats acts like a dog which I love, like he rolls on his stomach on my legs and he literally follows me around from room to room. But the other cat, who is still really nice and is actually gorgeous, seems to have some really extreme anxiety. They are brothers, and and I have one who acts like a really nice doggie and the other gets scared at everything. Just recently he comes in to see me and seems to love me and purrs, and the second I move my arm like an inch he jumps up and gets into a stance like I am about to kill him. I don't know what the deal is? Help? He really doesn't seem to be in pain. I mean he seems to be really happy until I move, like he has been hurt and he still doesn't trust anything. I don't know. Any experience? Wow, it's really scary to think he could have been abused. But I guess possible.

Do i have to shave my maine coon cat in order to get rid of her fleas? Someone told me that in order for me to get rid of my Maine Coon's flea problem that I'll need to shave her and then squeeze them all. On top of that I'll need to use Frontline. Is it really necessary to shave her?
Maine Coon Cats lifespan? When should you call it quits? We adopted our cat, back in 1993 and she was 3 years old then. Which makes her 19 now. Her breed is a Maine Coon, and I realize the average lifespan is 9-15 yrs but that is an AVERAGE. My parents would prefer putting her to sleep but I believe it is because they are being selfish, we're moving into a new house and hate the smell of the cat box. I do NOT want to put her to sleep at all, she is like part of the family to me. They tell me that she is too old and that she is suffering. I admit she has lost some weight, but don't we all later in life?? She vomits sometimes early in the morning, but not often at all. She seems to be a happy and healthy cat but if what they are saying is true then I don't want her to suffer either. She sleeps with me every night, curls right up next to me and purrs all night. She is a very affectionate cat and always has been. Someone please give me some advice :(
I have a Maine Coon Cat at home. How do i stop the shedding? Maggie (my Maine Coon) is 13 lbs. She is wonderful, but her fur is everywhere. My fiancee isn't so fond of the shedding. I've had her stomach shaved and it helped a little. He wants me to get "lion cut" for her - where she is all-shaved except her head and feet. Is there any other way to stop the shedding?? i've tried food additives, special food, and i brush her 2-3 times a week.
Why does my Maine Coon cat paw at water before drinking? My Maine Coon cat seems to be brushing away something on the water surface with her paw before she drinks. She does this whether drinking from her own clean water bowl or from a dirty puddle outside. I've never seen another cat do this.

Owners of Maine Coon Cats: Does your cat have odd sleeping positions? ? Like i've read up on them and stuff and it lists what they do and stuff. But one thing that i find odd with my cat is when he sleeps... well he sleeps like a human. Lays on his back. Hind legs in the air, front paws just hanging in front of his face. Its either that or he twists... his rear legs will be in one direction while his mid section is twisted and his face is facing the opposite direction. Does your Maine Coon do this?
