relief for asthma attacks caused by cats and dogs? My daughter and girlfriend keep begging me to have a cat but my whole life i've had problems when i get around a dog or cat I have asthma attacks. Lately i've noticed some dogs and cats it doesnt happen with. I'm curious if there is certain pet types that dont trigger these attacks and i would also like to know if there is any medecine that can help?
Is it healthy to treat dogs and cats the same? My son said tonight I messed my animals head up. They do not know if they are cats, dogs or people. That if they ever got outside on there own they would get hurt. ( Well duh, but i knew where he was going with his thoughts) They would not understand other cats would hurt them so on. And that mentally they had no clue what they were. I have taught the dogs tricks and the cats tricks. It is really funny watching a cat roll on its back and pretend die.You just do not see that often. They sleep together, clean eachother, sleep on top of the back of the couch when they want. (Dogs to) And sit in the window watching birds. I have two cats that have leashes for walks. They wanted to come so I took them. So, do you think it is bad for them? Do you think they care? I do not think they care if they are a dog, cat or human. Really is there something some one can show me on a site that shows it is not good to treat them the same.
is it common for cats and dogs to play together? I have a cat (2 yrs old I got him as a baby) and a dog (5 yrs but I got him when he was 4) and at first cat would try to kill my dog but now they get along so well. I think my cat uses my dog as a source of entertainment. My cat is bitter and violent but very smart. My dog is a poodle and I dont think they are known for intelligence. My dog is dumb as a brick but cute and affectionate. They always run around and roll around biting and playing and love eachother. Is this pretty common with dogs/cats?
How many pets (dogs & cats only) is one household legally allowed to have? I know some people that live in Missouri that have about 25 cats and 10 dogs - all living in their home. Is this legal? It seems like it would be a health hazard. Their home stinks really bad and there is animal hair all over the place. The animals are very well cared for though, some obese from eating too much food.
Who is the worst killer of dogs and cats? From July 1998 through December 2005, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) killed over 14,400 dogs, cats, and other "companion animals." That's more than five defenseless creatures every day. PETA has a walk-in freezer to store the dead bodies, and contracts with a Virginia Beach company to cremate them. So what are they doing protesting Vick? http://www.petakillsanimals.com/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People_for_the_Ethical_Treatment_of_Animals#Animal_euthanasia_and_criminal_charges http://www.peta.org/mc/factsheet_display.asp?ID=39 (I'm a Steelers fan... couldn't care less about Atlanta...)
Is it worse to eat dogs/cats than it is to eat cows/pigs/fish/chicken? I think so, and want to know if most people agree with me. Some people try to defend dog/cat-eating (which is common in certain Eastern countries) by saying that animals are animals, and eating one is not worse than eating another. I disagree because dogs and cats have been domesticated for so many years.
Any suggestions for Christmas gifts for my dogs, cats and bunny? This year, most of the people I know want to stop exchanging gifts. We are thrilled at the prospect of not having to shop too much, but do want to get our pets each something kinda cool. We have three dogs, a westie, a beagle and a lab puppy; two older house cats; and a five year old mini rex rabbit. Any suggestions for gifts for them? (Please understand we do things for people in our community too, and I am not looking to spend a ton of money on the pets, but just looking for some neat ideas.) Thanks!
Is pink eye in humans contagious to dogs and cats? I have a raging case of pink eye that started earlier today. I'm already using prescription eyedrops, but my eye is very runny, red and uncomfortable. I have a 4 month old puppy and 2 cats. Is it possible for them to catch it? I know dogs, cats and humans can't catch colds from each other, but I don't know about pink eye. Thanks!
Why are whites obsessed with dogs and cats? ill start by saying im mixed half white & black. i cant help but notice whites love animals, as my mom (white) has a dog & cat, but most blacks, hispanics, chinese etc. wouldnt give a rats behind. personally i hate dogs & cats (the dependency, fur, their food stinks and the list goes on). help me understand. also what makes someone willing to share their bed with an animal?
Can you feed your dogs cats and other dogs? I dont see why you cant feed a dog a cat, i dont see any harm in it, but is there a reason a dog cannot eat another dog??? I seen on survivorman he fed his sleigh dogs the weaker sleigh dogs. Can this affect my dog badly in the long run?
Do you like hte dogs or the cats better? In my opinion dogs are way better than any cat in the world because dogs are more playful, loveable, cute, and cats bite they are lazy they scratch, hiss, messy, not as cute as a dog, cats get in all of your things, they poop a lot,
How do you get Dogs & Cats get along? My cat i just got hates my 3 dogs and they hate him.I just don't know what to do so they will not fight or kill each other. If anyone has information for me i could really use it..FAST.
What effects do inbreeding have on dogs/cats? I'm trying to do a little report on inbreeding with dogs/cats, and i have heard that inbreeding causes agression. is this true? if so, can someone please give me a credible (not wikipedia) source that says this? thanks!
Do dogs and cats think they are human? Domesticated pets look in our mirrors and they don't recognise themselves because they are not self-aware. So, do they presume they look like us and if so what do they think when they see other dogs/cats? Can a human ever mimic a dog bark or cat meow so well that the dog/cat thinks it's getting a response? Any thoughts?
Does anyone believe cows and pigs are less intelligent than dogs/cats? Scientific studies have proven that pigs are more intelligent than dogs, and cows have the closest getstational process to humans than any other mammal. Why is it so hard to view dogs as dogs, and cats as cats,,,, but no problem to kill and eat cows and pigs? Why are they considered unable to have those emotions, but dogs and cats are routinely given those emotions? (yes, I eat steak and pork chops)
Can my puppy be around other dogs/cats? She is almost two months old (born June 7th) and she has only had one of her parvo shots so far. I have two cats and one dog and i was just wondering if it is safe for her to be around them. & the cats and dog go outside occasionally.
How spoiled are your dogs/cats? I was just wondering because my dogs have they're own full length couch with blankets and a pillow. They are so spoiled but I love them to death. the couch wasnt originally for them it was for the family but it got old and raggedy and its in a spot in the corner, nobody would ever sit there even if my dogs didnt lay on it.
What are all the species of wild dogs, cats, etc? Can anyone provide me with most (if you can provide all, you're amazing:)) of the wild dogs, cats, etc species? I mean, like tigers, leopards, jaguars, cougars...all those good things...I can't think of them all, and I don't know how to find them on google and such. Thanks in advance to anyone who can provide more than the species I listed.
Why is it that we Americans eat pigs, cows, and chickens, but not dogs, cats, or horses? Well first of all, I'm not advocating that we should be eating dogs, cats, and horses. I believe the answer to this question is because we find dogs and cats to be cute, and we see horses as these pretty, majestic animals, whereas we don't feel the same way about pigs, cows, and chickens(along with other animals we eat). Now, I think this is the explanation for why we engage in this behavior (and obviously vegetarians and vegans don't), but is that actually a valid, rational reason to justify this? And is it ethical to kill some animals while not killing others?
Why is it legal to eat cow/sheep/lamb but illegal to eat dogs/cats? Dogs, cats - you're good, pampered animals and people shouldn't eat you Cows, sheep, lamb - there is a loophole which allows people to eat you guys with impunity Isn't this an unfair law? I can't eat a dog or a cat, but people eat cows and sheep? Why? Why can't I have a farm with dogs and slaughter them to eat them, but I can do it with cows? Are cows more precious? -Proud Liberal :)
Do you ever wonder what goes on inside your dogs/cats head? Would you like for just one hour to get inside your dog/cat's mind and know how/what they are thinking? Do you ever wonder what they think of you and people in general? Do you think they have the same or similiar emotions, needs, wants that people do?
Why do SOME reptiles breeders have low standards of care compared to cats and dogs? A responsible dog or cat breeder is expected to dote constant attention on their animal and treat it just as they would a non-breeding animal. However, many reptile breeders have such large facilities they have to hire people (in the dog/cat world this would be called a puppy/kitten mill) just to get work done. They're kept in pretty small tanks, some even without hides. Can someone please explain this?
Can a veterinarian specialize in exotic animals and in dogs/cats? I was wondering if a veterinarian can treat both exotic animals (ex. guinea pigs, chinchillas, ferrets, etc.) as well as dogs and cats? Obviously, a vet must take other courses to obtain the license to treat exotic animals. Let's say a small animal veterinarian (treats dogs/cats) decides to specialize in exotic animals. Once the vet obtains the license, can they treat BOTH dogs, cats and exotics? Thanks for your help :)
What is a good flea medication for dogs/cats? ok needless to say we have tried the Hartz brand for my cat and it just seems like her fleas have gotten worse, so NO to that brand lol. me and my husband though are looking for a good brand of flea medication for our 3 dogs and cat. i have heard of the pills n one friend of ours said the brand works well (cant remember the name of it). but what are some good brands that you recommend, also a flea spray for the yard n house??
Is it really that necessary to put dogs, cats or other animals in a cage when selling them? Isn't that makes the animal a little more aggressive when it's time for them to get out? What I mean is, isn't wrong for them to be put up in cages mostly in the pet shops where they are being held up for a long time and being pointed up by people who passes by? can there be any other solutions when holding them in a place other than cages? Im doing a documentary involving this. I just want to know some opinions and will be searching for facts too.
Why do some people in this world argue that they HAVE to let their cats/dogs have their first litter? I totally 100% disagree with this. all their doing is increasing the overpopulation of unwanted pets in the world. they think that if they're female has babies, then she will be sweetier and nicer. personally, I think it's the other way around. I have a 2 year old female cat whom I had spayed at 6 months and she's one of the sweetest cats in the world. they're being selfish in my opion. they want the pet to be sweeter but then they want to jeopardize innocent kits/pups futures at the same time. people ARGUE about this. it's stupid!!!!!!!!! I mean, if they want a pup/kit just go and adopt one at the SPCA or shelter. I can tell first hand that it costs less to get one there than from a breeder or anywhere else. don't make you're dog/cat go through unnessary pain just because you want a kit/pup. pets don't need to go through the process of birth, their not like humans. what do ya'll think about this, I just want opinions. even if you can't afford to take care of your animals, there are people out there at the SPCA that will be glad to spay/neuter your pet for you.
What events in history resulted from pets such as dogs, cats, and horses? Pets play an important role in our lives today, as members of our families. In history, those same animal types were used for different purposes. The luxuries we give our pets today originated from need of them in history. I am a pet groomer, and would like to know some history relating to my profession, but am unable to find a satisfactory quantity of infomation. What historical events were caused by these pets, the use of them and the methods of maintaining their health?
Evidence: Cats and Dogs is a classic? Just thought I would share my thoughts on Evidence's new album. I think it is better than the Weatherman LP. Preemo's joint is on point (as always) and alchemist brings it. Dope songs like "I Don't Need Love" and good guests apperances like Prodigy on Fame. Check it out BQ: Your most anticipated album this year? @ SMC I don't have the DL but my manager burnt me a copy since his shipped early
will Kitten(s) puppie(s) cats and dogs go to heaven when they pass away on earth? will their spirits arise from their bodies and be brought to Heaven by guardian angels like humans? a place where they no Longer suffer and pass through the heavenly gates to a beautiful paradise. that has big yawn balls and dog bones everywhere and where they can play with the other animals while they wait for their owners to arrive for them?
Are cats really aloof, and not as loving as dogs? I hear people say this, but I don't agree. I have a cat and a dog. Whenever I get home, they both come bounding towards me, jump on me, and meow and bark (respectively, of course). It's so cute, they compete for my attention. Both are just as loyal as the other. My cat is a Siamese male, my dogs a female Pomeranian.
Tips on moving across country with two cats and two dogs? What is the best way to move with four animals? Two cats and two puppies....Have you done this? Was there anything you didn't think you'd need for them but did need? How can the cats use bathroom on a 3 day road trip? Should I fly the animals and myself and ship my stuff? No need to be rude. I asked for some tips....it was different than my other question
Am I Going To Be Allergic To Dogs, Cats and Horses? Okay so animals are part of my LIFE! I especially love Dogs, Cats and Horses. But recently I've been worrying that I might become allergic to the animals I idolize. My dad is supremely allergic to all 3 of these animals, but not my Mom. What are the odds that I'll become allergic too?
Why do dogs and sometimes cats lick you? llike, my chihuahua licks my face all the time. it seems so sweet. do you think shes giving me kisses and being friendly or what??? and when i make kissy faces at her she sticks her tongue out and licks the air!
Free or Low cost Vaccination and Nuetering for Dogs and Cats? I've tried looking but can't find a legit place in the city of Los Angeles. I live in Highland park. I have a German shepherd puppy of 6 months of age. I need to get him nueter, vaccinated, and get a dog license. and i would like to get him microship. Anyone know any foundations or clinics or shelters where i can get it for free or atleast at a low cost. it' my first time owning a dog, and i want to take care of the things i need to for my puppy Rocko. I also have a cat named Niko he just needs his shots n get nueter. I will strongly appreciate to those that help! I been looking online and calling places but it's a lil too much for me. Cant afford it all. I already spend couple hundreds on this puppy. Thank you everyone!!!
Help with dogs and cats please? Okay, so my family had two cats (Cleo and Zoe) and one dog (Jeter). They both seemed to get along perfectly fine, mostly because one of the cats was outgoing and put Jeter in his place! We found out this cat (Cleo) had a tumor in her mouth and, after thinking about it for a while, adopted another rescue dog named Bella. Cleo strutted around the house as usual and Bella got used to her and Zoe. Sadly, Cleo passed away from the tumor, (though she lived a good long life--18 years!) and after the death, Jeter began to chase around our other cat Zoe. Because she is skittish, she basically retreated to the third floor and rarely comes down. Even now, Jeter, who used to be perfectly fine with the cats, torments Zoe! My sister and I want another kitten and basically convinced my parents that we should get another kitten, as a friend for the shy Zoe. But, my dad, (who's a dog person...) thinks that this cat will basically be a "refugee" on the third floor with Zoe and that adopting one will be a mistake. My mom is on board, but thinks that we should try to get things "normal" between Jeter and Zoe first (Bella is fine with Zoe) That means making Zoe and Jeter comfortable with each other again. Yes, we did it before, but Cleo was Zoe's big sister and protector making it a lot easier the first time. So, any ideas on how to fix the Zoe-Jeter problem? Also, any tips for convincing our parents would be great too :) Thanks, E & K
My neighbor has dogs and cats all over the place. The stink comes into my yard with the wind. What can I do? Animal control has been to their house a few times. There are probably a dozen cats inside. At one time there was a pile of cat liter 3 feet high under a tree. There are also dogs chained to trees in their back yard. I'm wondering if it might help to plant something along the fence between my yard and theirs. But I don't know what to plant. My first thought was honeysuckles, but they don't have that strong smell all year long. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Cats and dogs in the same house help? I have a Full grown Lab, Chihuahua and Lab puppy were getting 2 kittens tomorrow the chihuahua likes to play and chase cats and if he does That the others try to attack and were not sure how the puppy is around cats so just expecting the worst. I need a lot of detailed ways to keep all the pets safe without any casualties. Help I'm really nervous!
How can I get cats and dogs go together? I have a puppy as tall as my knees but we saw a cat that looks cute too. We wanted to buy the cat but were afraid that the dog might attack the cat and shred it into pieces.
flea bites can transfer worms to dogs and cats. if you get a flea bite can you get worms too? i have three dogs and two cats. i treat all my pets regularly for fleas and worms. i treat the fleas with "spot on" for fleas and certain worms and "frontline" (for fleas, mites ans ticks only doesn't treat worms) i treat my cats once ever 8 to 12 weeks and my dogs get their treatment every 12 weeks. i do sleep with one of my cats a lovely main coon mix and i have found that i have had a few flea bites only one or two and only ever on my legs. my boyfriends never gets bitten!! i know you have to switch up the flea remedies every now and again to insure their effectiveness but my vet does that for me she keeps track of my pets past flea treatments. i have noticed that even after treating my cats i have seen one or two fleas on them 2 weeks later. do fleas still temporarily live (like even for only an hour or two) on your cats until the flea remedies kick in and effect the fleas??? and if fleas can transmit worms to cats and dogs can they do the same to people? could i have worms from flea bites. oh i regularly vacuum and have no carpets in my home. i even leave a flea collar in my vacuum to kill any flea eggs or fleas that i might hoover up if they are indoors. but how can they be?? i am the most care-full person i know when it comes to treating my pets for fleas and worms. oh know i dont ever double up i was just giving examles of what the treatments are. they get their one treatment once ever 8 to 12 weeks its up to the vet which one she wants to give me at the time.
What Type of Music Do Cats And Dogs Like The Best? I know they like the sounds of nature, but I was wondering if you have ever observed a cat or dog seemingly enjoying a certain type of music. Like, for instance, do cats and dogs like classical music or rock n' roll?
Why do people think it is gross to eat dogs and cats? We eat cows, pigs, deer, snakes, birds, fish, lions, squirrels, rabbits and more animals. What is so gross about eating a dog or a cat? Is it because people just see them as house pets? Meat is meat right? Joe I don't understand your comment
How to house train older cats and dogs? My mom just threatened to get rid of the cats and dogs tomorrow because they've been peeing all over the floor. However, I convinced her to not get rid of them if I can get them to stop it or if I clean it all the time (Also, only 2 of them are doing it, but she doesn't care anymore). So, any good tips for this? They also have a doggy door so they can go outside in the backyard whenever they want to.
Can cats and dogs live in the same home peacefully? I have a full grown German Shepherd that I've had for a while. He's extremely well behaved and very gentle (I've never even heard him bark!). I really really want a cat, though. Is it possible to have a cat AND a dog? And if so, any advice? Thanks! :)
is it true cats and Dogs hide during rain/thunders/storms? ok so i actually know that dogs and cats are sensitive to thunders and storms but what about rain? iread that normal rain can upset them..is that true? i live in a very rainy place..and if cats and dogs dont like the rain then i think i cant ever have a pet =/
How many pet owners here still vaccinate their dogs/ cats yearly? I've done LOTS of research on this and have decided to no longer vaccinate my dogs every year once they've received all of their puppy vaccines and their one year booster. I was just wondering how many others have done the same? http://www.critteradvocacy.org/Are%20We%20Over%20Vaccinating%20Our%20Pets.htm http://www.naturalanimal.ca/new/archives/archive13.htm It's not only me, but many vets in our area are beginning to see the problems associated with over vaccinating and have been changing their protocol, some now recommend vaccinating every 3 to 4 years instead of every year. Do you vaccinate your children when they're a little older after they've already received all of their childhood vaccinations? No you don't, and you don't get shots yourself anymore either because you got them all when you were little right? and you've now got antibodies in your body to fight off these diseases. So why would your pets and their immune systems be any different? Truth is they aren't.
How should I act around shelter dogs/cats? I'm going to be helping out at one. I want to know how I should act. Obviously, not scared and hesitant because they can sense it. What else? Too happy/excited not good too? What is with all of the snotty answers? Every question I asked got at least one. I just want to make sure I do everything the right way the first time. Most of these questions I already know the answers to. I just want to make sure and see if people can tell me what to do...who actually did it.
Flea Proctetion for Dogs and Cats? I have a cat and dog in the house and an outside cat. I have heard that Frontline Plus is the best flea and tick drops. But it's so expensive, and I don't have much money to begin with and I was wondering is there anything else that is not as expensive that works just as well? If there is none other, I will buy it, but if there is something cheaper, so any suggestions or comments would be helpful! Thanks a bunch!
Iams kills cats and dogs IamsCruelty.com? my Mother found a bag of iams dogfood at a dog park with a sticker on it says Iams kills cats and dogs is that true? is this some form of protest ? we have not feed any of the food to our dog
Do you think keeping dogs and cats in small cages is cruel? Dogs and cats like to run around and be free just like humans (and people wonder why dog whimper in the pet shops so much). That is why they act a fool when they get out. How would you like to be locked in a cage your whole life except to urinate and defecate? Do you think this is a cruel act? if not why?
How do I catch legendary dogs/cats on pokemon crystal? Everytime I spot one, It's always suissine. but whenever i get within 2-3 steps of it it runs away. How can I fight the pokemon without it running away first and catch it? I've got most badges i just need the last one. thanks x
How many legs do cows, dogs, cats, goats, tigers, elephants have? How many legs do cows, dogs, cats, goats, tigers, elephants have? We had a debate among ourselves. One group claims that they dont have any hands at all. The other says the forelimbs are hands. What U people think.
Do you prefer cats more than dogs or dogs more than cats? I think cats are wayyyyyyyyy better than barking, biting dogs.Cats are nice, peacuful animals while dogs are just plain mean! They almost have bit all of my cousins! The ONLY kind of dog I like is the little chihuahua.Dogs are not my thing.
How do you get cats & dogs to live in the same household if they have been living in two separate ones? Here's my dilemma. My man has two dogs, a Rotweiler & a Shitzu. I have two cats, both female, both strictly domestic, both have been spayed. In the near future we plan to live together. Now the problem is, can we get the cats & dogs to live together as one big happy family? How do you introduce animals that are obviously supposed to be "enemies" to each other, into a new household? Is this at all possible? Any Vets out there with a real answer?
Why are ferrets SO different from cats and dogs? I know a whole lot about them. Like. A lot. But I keep hearing people being like, "They're not like cats or dogs, so ___." And I don't get it. What is it that makes them SO different? They're mischievious? So's my cat (hellishly, hellishly so). You have to constantly clean their cage and after them? So do you after many cats and dogs I've been around. They're dependent like dogs (although more so). They're clean and litterboxy like cats. They smell like both cats and dogs. They constantly mess with your things not only like some cats/dogs but also like little kids. You can train them similiarly to a dog. They're largely self-serving like cats. Eeeet cetera. So what is it? ..they can have large expenses like a spoiled cat or dog or your "best friend" cat or dog who is ten years old and saddled with totally rotten health. They need at least four hours of play time a day like others. They must be supervised like a kid. P.s.; by "smell like cats and dogs," I mean they all have a big ol' smell. Simply. That many people do hate but some don't care about. But my cat also shreds everything he can, gets into the most inconvienient of places, etc. How could a ferret be so much worse? And simply checking for unpleasant surprises such as poop doesn't seem like any large deal, I don't see how it'd take very long. PSx2: Thanks and love to all who answer. <3 Gowd I can't remember anything to save my life. Ferrets can be trained to come when called, and fetch, plus other silly little things like play dead, like a dog. It's the simple method of rewards. Like dogs can be trained to do small tasks like open things and fetch odd things and this and that, ferrets can be taught to do such things as even help wire airplanes -- where humans can't reach.
Why save a cats or dogs life in an instant and in another, kill a wasp? These animals (yes even microfauna are animals) all deserve the same respect surely, or is their some elitist thing going on with cats and dogs? Are they more inclined to be pests? I have to tell you that here are more complaints of cats & dogs as 'pests' than wasps in our local council Environmental section. Just what is this hypocritical behaviour? Food-chain-snobbery I reckon. And low rational cognition in pet owners.
How do I stop cats & dogs Poo'ing on my new gravel drive? On friday I had my front garden converted into A drive, the top layer is a golden coloured gravel/small stones. It seems the cats and dogs love it. they have already started to poo in it. I have just been told its because people train their pets to do their thing in a tray filled with a simular stone at home, so when the pets go out and see a drive like mine they think thats what its for. Does any body know if their is any way to deter cats and dogs from my drive
What's the best flea control for multiple cats/dogs? My grandma runs an animal shelter, and every summer fleas get everywhere. Keep in mind, this is about 90 - 100 cats and multiple dogs, not "a few" --> so regular solutions won't really do it. Eucalyptus is harmful to cats, and there's not enough time in the day to borax or diatomaceous everything, everyday. Anything that can be done would help, thanks!
Why do Dogs and cats hate each other so much? I am doing a QUEST for my Gifted and Talented Language Arts class. The question I am trying to answer is why dogs and cats hate each other so much, but observation doesn't seem to be getting me very far. Does anybody no why this is (not the observation thing, but the thing about the cats & dogs.
What is a very nice pet to have?(this does not include, dogs, cats, snakes, lizards,or a guinea pig)? What is a very nice pet to have?(this does not include, dogs, cats, snakes, lizards,or a guinea pig)
Why do cats and dogs hate each other? Cats and dogs....why do they hate each other SO much? And I would like to know wtf would happen if they actually get into a fight? Would the dog eat the cat or rip it to pieces or what?
Killing cats, dogs, horses, and more for fashion? Im not down with hurting animals, but i eat chicken and ribs.... Google and or youtube peta. You see them use animals for clothes, but what about food? What is the difference? When we eat chicken do they wait till they die naturally or what? I try not to eat too much meat to be healthy and try eating more fish. So what are your thoughts on all this!?!
How to re-introduce our dogs and cats after a bad beginning? One of our cats was chased by our two adopted dogs at the initial meeting. Now he hides in my closet and won't come anywhere near them. Nothing we have tried helps him to become less afraid and willing to give them another chance. They do not chase our other two cats, but this one shows fear and I think they sense it. He lives in my bedroom and the dogs aren't allowed in there. I want to have them all get along and I feel awful for the poor guy! I can't afford a 'cat whisperer'. Please offer suggestions!
Can cats & dogs appreciate the effect of a fan running? This debate has been going on amongst my family and friends for a while now. It is my understanding cats and dogs do not have sweat glands all over surface of their skin like humans do which is why they don't perspire in summer like we do. They sweat by panting since their sweat glands are primarily located on/near their tongue (I think cats also have sweat glands on the pads of their feet, but I'm not sure about that). So is there any point to leave a fan running when all the humans have left the house (other than running up my electric bill)? When I've left the fans on all day while I'm away at work, the cats aren't laying in front of them when I come home anyway. Besides, I don't think the house stays any cooler if I leave the fans on all day than if I leave them off. I'm not talking about A/C. I'm just talking about a fan. Also, a fan alone does not lower temperature. However, our perception that the temperature has been lowered is due to the same wind chill effect that we experience in winter. Try it out sometime with if you ever have time in the summer with two rooms of the same size with doors you can close (like similarly sized bedrooms). Run a fan in one and don't run a fan in the other with the windows closed in both. Leave a thermometer in both rooms. The temperature will be same.
How do I keep my dogs and cats calm around eachother? Before we got our puppy, our two cats were fine with our older dog. They got along and they even played with eachother. But now since we got our puppy the cats have been hissing and running away from the puppy and our older dog. And because they keep running from them, the dogs go CRAZY and bark and whine and chase them all around the yard! How can i get them to live in peace??!!
Why are there more cats in shelters than dogs? I've noticed that whenever I look at different shelters websites there's always way more cats on the site than dogs. Same goes for when we go to shelters looking to adopt. There'll at least 100 or more cats. Yet, you only see 20 - 30 dogs. Are people more likely to throw cats out than dogs? Do cats have more kittens than dogs have puppies?
How long for new cats and dogs to settle in together? I'm interested in peoples experiences in settling in new dogs with established dogs and cats etc. How long did it take for them all to really settle together and be totally relaxed? What things did you do to help them get along? Experiences please!
Why so many more cats than dogs in shelters and euthanized? And it's more difficult for shelters to adopt out cats than dogs. Why? My three local shelters, SPCA, Humane Society, city pound all tell me the same that cats go less and slower than dogs and that big dogs go slower than small dogs. Is it just that cats are considered disposable and that's why there are so many more?
Should police be chasing after dogs and cats that are loose? There is a new law here in Wabash that your pets must be on a leash. Even a cat. I think the police should be chasing molesters, drugs and speeders around the schools and parks. They have plenty to do but they arent doing it? The ASPCA should be going after the pets but then our town is too cheap.
Why were cats and dogs domesticated but not other animals? How long do they think it took to turn wild dogs and cats into domestic animals. And could people start domesticating wild animals like raccoons and end up with a different species of raccoons? Keep in mind I don't actually want to do this, I'm just curious.
How come Australians have cats and dogs as pets when several native animals seem to make perfect pets? I understand that like Americans Aussies have rigid rules to decide wild vs. domestic. To prevent marsupials from going extinct it's time to accept that "Wild Australia" is gone and replaced the "domestic world of man." Believing "wild animals" belong in the "wild" is oxymoronic. There are very few places here UNtouched by man. If the Marsupials are to survive, Australians need to redefine a "domestic" animal as more than a dog or cat. If you look you'll find endless examples of extremely ez and successful domestication. Sugar Gliders are a common pet in the Southern US. Wombats seem to LOVE living in homes. Digging big holes doesn't make them dangerous or wild. Give them food, shelter and comfort and most problems with "wild animals" cease to exist. The irony is we ignore the "dangers" of having dogs and cats. People are injured sometimes killed by them, but they're not "wild" so it's ok? Can't we give the pouchies the same consideration and live w/our cats n dogs.
How can I get my dogs and cats to stop bringing live and dead birds into the house through the doggy door? In the past week we've had about five dead birds and one live one brought in the house. I'm so tired of running from scared alive birds and cleaning up after dead ones. But I really don't want to lock my babies (two dogs and two cats) outside all day and I don't want them locked in at night or I'll just be cleaning up their accidents. Plus I know that some of my pets are more active in the bird hunting than others... Any advice is much appreciated!
What small animals get along with cats and dogs? I have 3 dogs (2 labs and a basset hound) and 4 cats I want to get a small pet to have of my own, since the dogs and cats are already attatched to people in the house. I dont want to get a fish or something slimy and gross. I want to get something cute and furry, or a reptile. What could I get that would get along with our cats and dogs (and that the cats and dogs wont try to eat) Thank You sooooo much
How do you keep unwanted dogs and cats off your property? Cats and dogs are always seen in my front yard. I myself, have no pets, just some ignorant neighbors who let their pets out. I have no idea on who these animals belong to. I'm looking for a very inexpensive way on keeping these nuicances out of my yard, for good!
How do I stop cats and dogs from peeing on my flowers and garden? Besides the obvious of keeping them away, I can't keep the stray animals away from it at night. We've spent a lot of money getting our yard the way it is and it's all being ruined by the animals. The flowers are dying. Is there anything we can put in the garden that will make dogs and cats not want to pee there?
What can you do about people killing dogs and cats for fur? I saw a news report last night about people skinning cats and dogs alive for fur. It made me sick. The poor cats were clinging to each other for protection as they were plucking them out of a crowded cage. They tied a dog to a fence and skinned it alive. It took 14 alsatian puppies to make a coat. I sat there and cried my eyes out. Why does this still happen in the world. What can I do about it? How do I contribute towards it stopping? I cant stand to think of this. For the person that asked - I did not witness this personally - it was on my local news (lincolnshire, UK) about what was happening in China. Im sure other countries do this too. Apparently this fur is contained in a lot of products we dont even know about. It makes me feel sick - I couldnt watch all of it- it makes me feel too angry that it happens and i cant stop it. Thanks for your comments x huibother: its not lies - I saw the video. they werent trying to get my money - it was on my local news and they werent appealing for money - they were just saying that Europe were working to sort the problem out - so something can be done. i dont want to argue with you - you seem a bit touchy man! im just sharing my views :) and why do you say its none of my business? why cant it be my business if i care? why do you feel so strongly about it? why has this hit a raw nerve with you?
