Extinct Animals Knowledge Base
Extinct animals? there is a website, http://extinctanimals.petermaas.nl/ where it list a wide number of extinct animals, from Mammals to Fish, and Birds, etc. I was wondering for ANY info on any animal on any of those lists. I have info for most, but generally it is minimal, eg. Where it lived &sci name. So I would appreciate any and more specific details about any extinct animals on these lists. THANKS! These animals I have no details of: Eastern Elk (Cervus elaphus canadensis) Iberian Wolf (Canis lupus signatus) Florida Red Wolf (Canis rufus floridanus) Arizona Jaguar (Panthera onca arizonensis) Jamaican Monkey (Xenothrix mcgregori) Dangs Giant Squirrel (Ratufa indica dealbata) Western Hog-Nosed Skunk (Conepatus mesoleucus telmalestes) Merriam's Elk (Cervus elaphus merriami) Again, any help is appreciated, thanks! I also did try to Google all of the animals, however that did not work either. Thank you Kaya for your sites, they did help me.
Is it possible that extinct animals young may have taken longer to be advanced than most animals now? In considering the level of advancement of animal young, they take less time to advance to 'adult' capabilities than humans. Is this because the level of 'advancement' of a creature takes longer depending on how advanced the creature potentially is, or could it be that evolution has made extinct animals who's young took too long to be fully advanced and therefore became victims to predators/injury/disease than those animals which matured more quickly?
How can scientists tell what extinct animals look like? Ok I was looking up information about the Precambrian Era and I thought about something, how do scientists tell what color and features the extinct animals look like? I would think that some dinosaurs are not the colors we think they are. They could be blue, purple, white, and any other color. But why do scientists usually use the same colors for the dinosaurs and other animals. One other thing is how do scientists tell if there were Jellyfish? I mean do they even have bones? Please reply.
What are some recently extinct animals or plants? I need to do a project on an animal/plant that has been extinct for 30 years or less. I have to find recently extinct animals or plants that we used for food in the last 30 years. I'm in grade 7..if that helps I tried searching on google, ask, yahoo, etc but I couldn't find anything....
How do scientists know what extinct animals looked like from their fossilised remains? I have just been showing my 7 year old daughter a news article about the oldest woolly rhino fossil being discovered and she asked me how they knew it was woolly if only its bones survived and I have realised I do not know. There seems to be a general consensus about the type of skin and colour of dinosaurs and prehistoric animals now extinct and also whether they were warm blooded or cold blooded etc. How is this information obtained from fossil remains? Thank you.
Should Richard Dawkins be the main speaker of the funeral for extinct animals? If Science & Outer Space holds a funeral for extinct animals, I say Richard Dawkins would be the perfect speaker. Many of the people whose careers are dedicated to Science & Outer Space should attend. Much of the funeral will be dedicated to the victims of the Big Five mass extinctions. The funeral shall also honor the animals that went extinct in other extinction events, including the Quaternary period. I shall cut myself for every animal that went extinct during both the late Pleistocene and Holocene epochs. Since I am an Onion, this will cause everyone else to cry for the cute little animals.
What are some extinct animals of Wisconsin? I need to know some animals that are extinct in Wisconsin. It's for my homework/paper due tomorrow so I kind of need the info ASAP. You know? and when you leave an answer, could you tell me your source? I wouldn't know how to cite a person yet....especially from the internet. Thank You!
What is your opinion on cloning extinct animals? im doing a report on japanese scientists who have been cloning mice that have been frozen for 16 years. they now believe they can clone extinct animals, such as the mammoth. whats your opinion? i need some for my report.
If extinct animals were made to come back? What do you think will happen if for some reason humans were able to bring the recently (about 500 years or so) extinct animals back to life? Do you think that they sould do it? Why or why not. What do you think will happen if for some reason humans were able to bring the recently (about 500 years or so) extinct animals back to life? Do you think that they sould do it? Why or why not. Keyword RECENT, im not talking about dinosaurs
Would it be possible to manually bring extinct animals back to life? Say an animal has recently been declared extinct, you have the the information on the DNA structure of the animal, even though it would take an extremely long amount of time could you take the DNA and manually make it reproduce? I do not know a whole lot about biology but i did hear about the wooly mammoth they are trying to bring back to life, is it like that?
What are some endangered or extinct animals that are red! ? i want to customize a pair red( more of a burgundy) puma shoe for a art project. I need a red or dark red animal for the theme. anything will help me just has to be or have red on it and ether endangered or extinct. Also if it had fur on it even better. !! No real animal products will be used to customize the shoe! I am selling it to raise money for the animal or animal shelter.
how come we can't revive extinct animals like mammoth with DNA cloning? It is in fact possible for us to get material from recently extinct animals to try and bring a species back so why aren’t we? I know this may be somewhat controversial but I cant help but wonder how bad this really could be? If we just cloned one extinct animal to learn from it, etc. I’m not talking about bringing back 1000’s of a species. Has this been done already, have any extinct or close to extinct animals been successfully cloned?
Will we ever see extinct animals walk the Earth again? I,ve read about it in a few science articals, but who actually believes or wants to see us bring back to life extinct animals that lived in a completely different world than we do now? I guess it would be intresting to see living animal such as: mammoths, sabortooth tigers and other more peace-ful animals, but surely scientist wouldnt be stupid enough to ressurect dinosuars would they? Or are they greedy enough to be ignorant like the scientist in Jurassic Park an d cuase potential disaster? What do ya'll think?
Is clonning extinct and soon to be extinct animals immoral? I can't possibly imagine in the past million years how many hundreds of thousands of animals and mammals have gone exctinct and have never been written into history for man to see. The reason behind their extinction could be anything but I believe the ignorance and cruelty of man is responsible. But as we also evolve in science we learn to save & discover new things rather than simply destroying it.So, Is it important to preserve their existance amongst us for the sake of knowledge?
Do you think cloning extinct animals from preserved DNA is ethical? Hi, I asked this question about 18 hours ago but I thought 'd ask it again to get a different set of opinions. In Australia for the last few years some museums have created a stir by attempting to resurrect the extinct Thylacine (or Tasmanian Tiger) from preserved DNA. Do you think this is ethical? Do you think it's resurrection would have an impact on the environment where it would be re-introduced? All opinions welcome.
extinct animals that are related to present day animals? for part of a bio project i need to find an extinct animal somehow related to an animal living now. and i need to list similarities and differences between them and explain why they're related. for example, whales are related or originated from mesonychids.. here's a picture: http://www.bringyou.to/apologetics/whaleevolution.gif the mesonychids are first. any animals you can think of ?. im stuck on this. i cant use whales or any kind of horse.
The reason why some countries have very few extinct animals? I have a biology investigation and want to know why there are some countries that have a low rate of extinct or endangered animals. could someone tell me at least 5 or 6 reasons why these countries have a low rate. there is a red list called IUCN redlist that shows how many animals are extinct or how many endangered and so on. and from the 7 country that i had to investigate about Iraq was the country with the least extinct animals
Why is it that many African animals that humans lived alongside with are not extinct? I've seen some questions like this but I want a good answer. Why is it that many African animals that HUMANS LIVED ALONGSIDE WITH are not extinct? Is it because the animals are adaptable? Is it because that people there have became respectful to animals quickly? Or is it because Africa was not affected by the Ice Age and only few animals became extinct?
If scientists could bring extinct animals back like in jurassic park would they? Lets just say it was possible and they found a way to do it would they bring back animals they have the DNA of like those cats that are extinc but they have a dead on in a jar or those mamoths in the ice perserved . Would the public be controvesial of it you think?and would animal rights groups cll it evil?so do you think they would bring back dead animals?
Why can't we clone extinct animals that we have complete DNA like tasmanian tiger and frozen mammoths? if we have the body tissue, how come we can't clone animals like mammoths that have been frozen and tasmanian tiger pups that were put in a liquid tube and are almost basically the same as they were when they died? we can clone sheep and cats and stuff because we have the tissue and DNA, so why can't we clone these animals? i understand dinosaurs as they are millions of millions of years old and we hardly even have their fossils, though.
Why do we worry about about animals going extinct when we are all severely endangered? Now people keep saying, "this animal is going to go extinct." The response is "well, there's lots of other animals just like that." Then the argument goes back to "Well this animal has a specific kind of trait that the others don't have, i.e. its fur is brown!" I don't get these arguments. With these lines of reasoning, isn't every human severely endangered and then extinct when they die? I mean, we each possess our own individualized traits. Why aren't some Greenpeace members running around me constantly with shields protecting me from dangerous people?
How many animals go extinct in one year? How many animals go extinct in the average year? Well I don't want to include plants and animals. the reason I want to know is because this guy and I bet on how many it was because I was telling him about how the polar bears are dying because of global warming and he thought that it wasn't a big deal cause he thought lots of animals go extinct in a year so I told him I would do some research
Scientists are using cloning to bring back extinct animals. What's your opinion? Do you think it's good using these new technologies to prevent extinction or does it disgust you? According to my biology text book, scientists have made one successful clone of the Pyranean Ibex that died out in 2000, by using some tissue from the ear of one of them, and are planning to clone more to bring back the species.
Why are a lot of large African animals not extinct? How did animals like African Elephants, Black and White Rhinos, Hippos, African Buffalo, most Zebras, Giraffes, Lions, Leopards, Gorillas, and Chimpanzees not go extinct even after the humans evolved in Africa and occupied the continent for all those thousands of years? Did those animals live further inland than the humans? Did they all live a fairly balanced existence? Why wasn't it until relatively recently that some of them became endangered? Why didn't the Quagga go extinct until after Whitey showed up?
If you could do one thing to stop making animals extinct, what would you do? If you could do anything to stop making animals extinct, what would you do? Would you do something little, would you do something HUGE to make sure that it never happens again, or would you not do anything at all and watch the poor innocint animals get killed for just being alive? I need to know because killing animals is just WRONG! Everyone needs to put an end to poaching! (I meant poaching as in hunting for animals, not as in poaching eggs...Just so you know!) All these exotic animals are being killed just because they look beautiful! To me, that makes no sense and poaching is cruel. Let me know what you think!
How can We help these poor animals from being extinct? How can we help these poor little animals from being extinct. Deers, wild cats, lions, pandas, bears, frogs, rabbits, and more other animals are dying out. People kill rabbits, wild cats, and other small animals to make these stupid fur coats, jackets, sweaters, and other things. Some animals eat trees and people are cutting it down to make furniture. So if the world keeps being like this in maybe10 years we will are be dead. Please help. How can we help all these animals from running out. They need our help, and if they run out then we will die slowly, suffering, and with lots of stress.
what are some extinct animals? i need to know at least 5 different extinct animals but i cant find it any where. i tried searching it up on google, and wiki but i still cant find it. and i dont want pics of extinct animals, i want info like approximatly what year they got extinct and why...also the effect on ecosystem..:) THX!
Thank You!
If evolution is just change, then why do humans care so much about animals going extinct? I mean, I recently posted a question about evolution and how once race amongst the species must be superior. Many people responded that it is a false assumption. Ok then. If it is a false assumption then why do humans try to perserve animals that are going extinct? Isn't it part of the change in evolution? Why do people who beleive in evolution care about other animals going extinct or not? I don't want to kill off animals, but I don't see the consistancy in thinking. I am wanting to know other peoples opinion. I am a Christian and I do beleive in creation. So, if you want to answer just to bash my belief or my religion don't waste your time. I think it is childish to do such things for people trying to get information. But if man is part of the natural selection and we are inadvertently wiping some species out. Then that too should be part of evolution? It seems mans nature is destruction, we don't live at peace with anything. There has always been wars, destroying of forests, killing of animal, etc... Humans at our point have no natural predator except ourselves. I am not trying to be difficult, I just want to understand clearly.
How do we protect animals from being extinct? The number of some species of animals are dwindling rapidly, and since putting them on the endangered species list is not working, what can we do to protect them from being extinct?
Why we should protect animals? If they extinct is there any harm to human beings? We are spending more money and time is research and protecting animals. I could not understand why we spent? Is there any harm to us if yes what is that pleas explain me.There are so many animals which were extinct from the earth what happen to us? for ex dinosaurs.I hope you have understand my doubts. Please clarify my doubts.
Can anyone help with a extinct animals project? I am doing a project about an animal called a "Quagga", but can't seem to find enough information on it... Can anyone help by giving websites that are not wikipedia, as we are not allowed to use wikipedia...
Extinct animals that would be able to co-exist well together.? What 2 or 3 animals, that are extinct, would be able to co-exist together Preferable a bird, fish, and land animal. Ie. The bird eats the fish, and the land animal eats plants. We originally had a dodo and a tasmanian tiger. But we found that they would not be able to live together. Because the dodo cant fly. ~Thanks in advance
Are there any animals extinct due to global warming? I'm doing a college assignment and can only find a couple that are, but my friends have already chosen them and i don't really want to choose the same as them so i was wondering if any one on here could find any. yes i know most species are exinct due to habitat lost etc. BUT the asignment is asking, what species is exinct due to global warming.
How soon before the last living animals become extinct? It seems to me we are become ever more proficient at destroying everything we touch. I wonder if the animals will have to make a final last stand and die en masse defending the little bit of freedom they still enjoy. The animals enjoying thier freedom is a relative term as in "They are free to move from point a to point b in pursuit of whatever there is to eat".
why the animals and birds are getting extinct? Why the animals and birds are getting extinct and why the insects are increasing in earth? beautiful animals and birds are getting extinct and the disgusting insects are getting increased!! why?
Should extinct animals be cloned? Lately, there has been talk of cloning a wooly mammoth. Do you believe extinct animals should be cloned? Please note, this is not a question pro or con general cloning; it refers to extinct animals only. Pharmnerd, I gave you a thumbs up for your answer, but you're wrong about the mammoth being before human beings. They were here together and were hunted, probably to extinction as were the American buffalo.
Is there a possibility that animals who have been declared extinct are really not extinct? I have a theory... I believe (and hope) that all the animalss who have gotten the label "extinct" are not extinct at all. I think that they have gone into seclusion in the remotest parts of the earth where no man has discovered. My theory is based on backward discovery. Meaning; we find new life forms all the time- deep in the sea, in the jungle- that we didn't know existed. Is it therefore possible that animals have gone into hiding and we just don't know where? I believe in a Creator and I don't think He would let humans distroy His creations. The atmosphere can recover, the water can recover, the air can once again be fresh and clean, all these things man has done to the earth can be reversed, nature was built to regenerate. If these things can be reversed then why isn't it reasonable to consider the idea that He has made a "hiding place" of sorts for His creations so they are not wiped out completely? Sorry, no I'm not including dino's in this theory Just a Guy- I know that there may be amosphere changes and possibly the lack of actual ground area, but my question is, do you think it is possible?
